look for the outlying burbs of which ever major city you had in mind. A lot of times there are small universities in those suburbs, then start searching ads for people in those areas looking for a room mates, there should be a lot of them, who also don't care if you are enrolled in the school. And, have something in mind to do work wise when you get there.
