Well they'd keep you on the line for as long as possible then while they are doing this they'll have alerted the police who will be on their way ASAP because a cog in shekel bergs machine deciding he wants to check out isn't gonna fly they''ll talk you down and once your safe they'll restrain and treat you like you've just figured out teleportation to a realm of cat sluts and want it destroyed then once they get you back to the hospital they'll pump you full of drugs and probably more then you need because by this point you'll have gotten over your bump and realized there's other options but they wont give a rats ass shekel berg has another plan for you to pump you full of experimental drugs that turn you docile you'll never leave that place the same.

I don't know but when my family had me put in, well, something, I'm not sure you could call it a "mental hospital" or what, but anyway, when my family me put in whatever that was, I had to be escorted by police (which is very uncomfortable, being handcuffed and sitting in the back of a police car where the plastic chair forces you to sit with your back arched) to a hospital, where they made me strip and change into a gown and then threatened to stick a catheter in me if I couldn't pee quick enough. Then they took me to the actual place I was staying, which was mostly staffed by black people and had mostly black patients who did not like me very much. It also wasn't very comfortable, at least not anymore comfortable than a normal home or apartment, and you don't have much privacy, you also have to ask to go to the bathroom every time. Overall it wasn't a horrible experience, but it wasn't comfortable in any way. Although this was a while ago when I was a teenager, so I don't know how it goes with adults.

Ambulance comes, takes you to hospital. Someone from a psychiatric assessment team comes and talks to you about it. If they think it's necessary then they'll put you in a psych ward for treatment and observation.

Psych wards are very expensive without public healthcare. If you have public healthcare but live in a shitty small town I'd advise against going there completely unless you really desperately need it because those places are usually underfunded and filled with the dregs of the psychiatric profession. They aren't smart enough or interested enough to help and will generally see what they want to see and not listen to what you think the problem is.

Psych wards can be pleasant, predictable safe environments where the patients are on an even playing field (provided your illness isn't too severe) instead of the dominance hierarchy present in daily life but remember you can't stay there forever and all your problems will still be waiting for you when you get out.

Psychiatric staff can also be vindictive, manipulative dishonest and disempowering as well (many people interested in working in mental health have encountered mental illness in their own lives) and ultimately make your situation worse so it's important to be careful around these people as well.

I wouldn't put yourself in a position where you hand power over you to someone else on the basis of mental health if you can help it.

Once you get that label of mentally ill you become stigmatised, marginalised and disempowered and people in the medical profession are less interested in listening to and understanding you and more likely to listen to hearsay and inaccurate or incomplete medical records.

Better to see a GP about a referral to a psychologist and psychiatrist (you'll end up with these after being discharged from a psych ward anyway) unless you're in genuine crisis OP.

Where do you live? I've experienced both a psych ward and a police escort for similar reasons (one happened in the U.S. in a red state and the other in NZ) and neither was as nasty as that.

I live in a really nice city of about 100,000 people in the UK, I think you still have to pay if you go to a psych ward but I'm unsure. I think I will always be too weak to go to my GP for mental help since I never talk about my mental health outside of the internet.

my gf went to a mental hospital recently. it was not comfy at all. everyone there was a batshit crazy minority and the food was leftover MREs from the iraq war. 0/10 would not recommend. I hear outpatient programs in the suburbs and rural areas are pretty okay though
