I thought GPAs didn't matter for college degrees?

Anyway, you just have to stick with it long enough to show that you'll be an obedient slave for anyone.

Where di you hear that? Who says you have to get, or even strive for, a "competitive job"? It's true that for, say, grad school, you should have a 3.0 usually, but I think the median GPA at decent schools is something like 2.6? A 2.8 is still a B-, what's wrong with that. Work harder and you can get up to a 3.0 I bet. But most workplaces don't even ask your GPA. For accounting, go work at a bank or a non-financial business just being a staff accountant. I dropped my Accting major because I got so tired of hearing "CPA, CPA, CPA" is if that is the only way to be an Accountant. Learn coding skills (even at community college) and be a financial auditor or something--the opportunities are there, they just try to pigeonhole ACCT majors into being CPAs which is unfair.

Although it's not nice of me to say this, but I understand your feel in a different way. My CGPA is 3.09 and in the current summer semester I'm nailing a 3.5, but, even though that's pretty good, I want to get into a masters program and I need a CGPA of like 3.7 or something crazy like that.
>>
>>38382939
Not fucked at all as long as you graduate. Employers rarely check your GPA, but you should be knowledgeable.

However, maintaining a 2.8 GPA is really stressful, man. You'd feel a lot better working harder. I know, because I've been there. Economics sounds like an interesting field. You can read about Keynes and Friedman, check some historical data, and find out who's the hack. Doesn't that sound like fun?

I did back in community college. I took all the easy classes. It was the only time in my life I felt hopeful for the future. Now I'm in uni and have to take maths, sciences and languages. I'm better off working at Taco Bell than pissing away thousands towards something I'm not even sure that I want.

i got 50's and 60's in high school because i never showed up due to depression and anxiety, something tells me community colleges wont even accept me, i really would like to go to college for journalism though.

>>
>>38384386
they'll accept you
trouble is making it worthwhile. can't do too poorly or else you should just withdraw from everything and wait til you're ready. getting into a 4 year will be impossible with such low grades but a W is always better than an F

all the community college journalism courses around me are 3 year programs, and admission requires an essay to be written and i'm kind of shitting my pants at the thought of that. i love to write, but if i'm rejected by the one thing i thought i enjoyed/was good at i think i'd neck it right there, it would be too much for me to live with.

I have a 2.2 and I'm majoring in business after failing math for CS too many times. Also why do you want to kill youself?
>>
>>38382939
I failed one class and didn't have a high enough grade to continue to the next level of another class. That was my first semester of college. I should've quit while I was ahead, but I somehow kept going for three years after that. My GPA progressively got worse and worse, and once it dipped down to a 1.8, I was suspended. By that point, I didn't care enough to keep going, so I just stopped altogether.

Learning a trade and saddling up with a union is the way to go these days.

when it comes to applying for jobs ask someone in your field for resume advice though. legit don't know if you would put cc gpa on your resume.

Relatively prestigious University so it has Industry partnerships.

All IT students interview with the interested companies. (around fifty 10 minute interviews in two days)
The interviewers rate the students based on how much they like/want them.
The University 'hands' out the students based on their scores.
All the internships are full time, last 22 weeks and work on a scholarship type deal the works out at around $19/hr.

Also, have you tried tiring yourself out?

you should get a big plastic table and put it somewhere away from your computer, put all of your work on that and then sit down there and play some bill evans or something

like those brown-nose upper middle class kids we all remember who did theater and choir and were all in the same AP courses, they're not better than you at focusing, they just had parents who taught them to put themselves in a situation where they had to because there is nothing around to be distracted by.

hopefully that helps me when I go back to college. I tried taking online courses however many years back and it is ridiculously easy to get sidetracked when you're on your own personal computer.

I garudated with a 2.9 in economics

the GPA isn't the problem, it's the economics part. Sure there are worse fields out there in terms of usefulness and getting a job but overall if you need to get a good job then pick another major. Economics is best for people looking to move onto grad school. Even then you're going to be making shit at some low-level government analyst position.

I got a job in IT/Finance after graduating. I still hate my job though. I didn't even like economics I just switched into it because my first major (journalism) has no jobs any more

In this day and age, if you know what bash or command prompt is, you're hired at 98% of jobs. The other 2% are Google and Facebook.

People are so computer-illiterate nowadays, yet computers are *easier* than ever to use. I actually had a veteran "technology specialist" tell me that she couldn't open up a zip file because she doesn't have WinZip.

She's been working there for 15+ years.
