Hello /r9k/ i was wondering if i could get some advice for something that my friend told me recently.
We were discussing another friend's depression, and he told me how I could never understand that friend's feelings, as I have never experienced "real depression". I am curious, what is real depression? Does there need to be a "legitimate" reason or cause for the depression? maybe that is what he meant by that. also inb4 having friends and being on r9k

Depression, like any other mental illness, is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. It could be triggered by a stressful event but the hormones in your brain don't switch off the emotions. It is a long-term. Depression isn't someone's fault, the result of weakness, or anything in particular. Someone could have a perfectly normal life and still get depression. You're only more prone to it due to stress. Your friend hasn't simply got a case of the blues, anon.
