I think it was Watamote like 3 years ago, before it was this Welcome to the NHK.

I'm pretty sure there have been others more recently but I guess they weren't memorable enough for me to remember them.

For me it'd be Harrison Bergeron, about a world where everyone is either enhanced or handicapped to perform equally in every way of life. George and Hazel's son (Harrison) was taken from them for being almost godlike.
Near the end, Harrison crashes the set of a TV station, busts free of his handicaps, and dances with his Empress (a woman chosen from the crowd) until both are shot dead. George and Hazel cry upon seeing it, but their handicaps soon make them forget all about it.
It means a lot to me because reminds me how people with such great talents can be crushed by the world around them. It also sobered me against socialist ideals when I first read it.

Watamote had a great concept, good character, but a wash of an execution. It had some nice moments sprinkled throughout though, and I understand why it resonates with so many robots.

The anime was good but make sure to read the novel.

Anything where the characters relationship with each other develops over time and then someone dies.

Empire Strikes Back, Dark Knight Rises, basically all movies.

Im pretty much emotionless when it comes to stuff like this happening in real life but I get extremely over emotional when it happens in movies.

I still cry at all the manly tears in Fist of the North Star. Souther was messed up because he had to grow up too soon. Raoh couldn't bear to kill his little brothers. All Ken goes through to get Yuria back and she's doomed to die anyways.

Duckman has some great moments showing that he does care about his children and wishes to bond with them, but sometimes can't. I watched the first season and a half but decided to skip it one day, which turned into never watching it again because I'm lazy.

Mob Psycho 100 mostly, I found myself learning a lot more from it than I had ever anticipated.
Watamote used to resonate more with me but as Tomoko got better over time it made me realize that I had failed harder than a fictional caricature of someone socially-anxious despite having less spaghetti involved.
Shindol's Metamorphosis was a painful read too but that's not safe for anybody.

freshman year of highschool i hooked up with one of the college girls. she hurt me bad. she was a druggy and was always lying to me and cheating im sure of it. i used to think i was like naota, dating older girls. i think i have a little brother complex because my baby sitter's daughter used to touch me and kiss me. but the college girl was the most exciting thing in this robot's life up until that point. a year later she hung herself in the mental ward. i'll see her one day, maybe.

The book was meant to be the first of a series of books which would compromise a fictional hagiography (i.e. the biography of a saint). The main plot revolves around a parricide, but it mainly deals with religious themes and atheism, if I recall correctly (it's a +1000 pages book and I read it a few years ago, I should really reread some day). This is a beautiful scene that still stirs me to this day (the one speaking is the devil, as hallucinated by an atheist):
