It depends on what your criteria for /fit/ is, but playing team sports that involve off season conditioning at least through high school usually does the trick. At that point all you have to do is work out 2-3 days a week. For instance: cardio one day, lifing one day, and yoga one day will keep you in shape as fuck as long as you really put your all into those sessions. Or work a manual labor job or get some hobby like rock climbing or skateboarding or some shit. It's not hard.

Also most academics these days invariably involve interaction with peers. All of those are easy to juggle although it does require a lot of consistent work preferably started as young as possible.
