They're associated with african american people in particular. Not European black people.
The reason is thus.
They are foods that are easily and cheaply prepared and are associated with the predominantly black and economically disenfranchised deep south.
>Watermelon = nutritious, hydrating and cheap. No preparation necessary and blacks ate them when working manual labour.
Fried chicken = soul food found in the south. Can be prepared on a shoestring budget and "fancied up" with cheap spices and sauces.
Grape drink = buy a fuck lot of grape powder concentrate for pennies and you can put in water and you have refreshing drinks for practically nothing.
Explanation: it's a sly way of calling out blacks for being poor.
