As someone who has dealt with abusive parents, your mom sounds really psychologically draining.

If I were you, I would just be open with her and say that you want to spend time with your friend, which is something you just can't do with her around. Say that it's not personal, but you have to be with your friend alone, and that's just the first in your stepping stones towards becoming an adult.

Then again, if you really think that will ruin the relationship between your mother and you, it's really just about prioritizing what you want. Do you value being with your friend, going out and eating for a day, or do you value ties to your mother?
