>"Are you Anon? We must inspect all of your electronic materials. If you have anything encrypted, you must give us your passwords or else you will be taken into custody until you decide to comply. Do you understand? Follow me, the police are waiting for you."
>>
Please don't, that's my biggest paranoia even though I don't have anything incriminating on my encrypted laptop.

I wouldn't like some random border control agent going through my work stuff tho, because then I'd have to tell them it happened and have all passwords and SSH/GPG keys revoked and generate new ones.
>>
*gives firm handshake*
>"Alright anon, welcome on board."
>>
>>38238969
They sometimes plant stuff, especially if they're frustrated about not finding anything incriminating.
>>
>>38238969
What's the most embarrassing stuff you have on your laptop?
>>
>>38238929
This is why i have no interest in leaving my country
>>
>>38239005
That's okay, when I shut down the laptop a hash of the partitions is made and saved on an external USB key, so I can verify the integrity on the next boot, all it needs is a custom initramfs.

>>38239019
Embarassing in what sense? I don't take pictures or videos of anything I do.

I guess the most embarassing thing would be code I never released.

What do you have to hide?

Off to Guantanamo you go.
>>
>>38238929
Do they actually do that shit when you try to go between countries?
>>
>>38240154
>implying non-state approved operating systems will be allowed
>implying it will even be possible to boot non-system approved operating systems

They almost tried with "safe" boot.
>>
>>38240313
It depends if your name is in the list (even if it's someone else with the same name), or if you're extremely unlucky and get the random check.
>>
>>38240349
But why would they look at your electronics? Isn't that a violation of your rights?
>>
>>38240369
You have no rights while crossing a national border if you're not a citizen of the country you're getting into.
>>
>>38240425
Looks like I am never leaving the U.S. with anything electronic in that case.
>>
>>38240349
>if your name is in the list
w-what list?!
>>
>>38240459
It's only bad if you're getting into the US while not being a citizen (especially if it's work related).

You might have issues with the UK, but that's pretty much it, most countries are extremely chill.
>>
>>38240570
Any of the lists, there's a system called redressing for people who have the same name as other people on the list, so they can be identified and excluded from all those searches.
>>
>>38240369
they don't actually "check" them, they just tell you to turn it on, you know, just in case it's actually a bomb or something...

at least that's what I've heard. Only been on a plane two times last year and they were domestic flights and I had my laptop with me but they didn't even ask about it.
>>
>>38239052
Can you share that initframs with me?
>>
>>38240647
That's just the security check, not border control.

Border control actually asks to inspect the contents, but it only happens if they do a full search on you.
>>
>>38240657
I'd rather not, it has some extremely specific code for my laptop and custom kernel.

It's extremely easy to make your own tho, it's literally just a binary that runs during boot from the initramfs and before shut down from the initramfs.
>>
Very illegal. If I did it then I could go to jail once I land back in America. I use my computer for work as a physician. Health information is a huge fucking deal. You get in trouble even if the laptop is stolen.
>>
>>38241185
It's a national border, it's not illegal for them unless you're a citizen of the country you're going into.

You literally have no rights when passing through a national border.
>>
>>38239251
>Nothing
okey dokey
>>
>>38238999
the true undecipherable answer
>>
>>38238929
I thought only America does this.
>>
>>38239280
remember the devil is in the intent for crimes in our justice system
>>
>>38241271
It's illegal for me. I still have to follow the law even if they don't. I value my laws more. Once I call the embassy they would bail me out and get me back home safely.
