Ideon is bretty gud, was the primary predecessor/inspiration of Evangelion. It's less character-driven and more pessimistic but definitely worth watching if you liked the uncomfortable, tense feeling of Eva's later parts.

If the first arc didn't interest you, I'd say the show isn't to your taste. It heats up a lot towards the very end but it's largely character-driven so if the characters didn't get you interested then yeah.

It's a pretty great show though, if you feel like giving it another shot I'd say go for it.

Another is meh for me, was pretty much just a gorefest with a twist that's a bit of an asspull.

Shiki is the best horror anime I've seen. The atmosphere for the first few episodes is so well done and it's the only horror anime that has actually managed to scare me that fucking bed scene is brilliant the characters are (for the most part) believable and likeable, and even the monsters are well written.

That's not to say it's perfect though.

I had such big expectations for this but it really let me down.

I honestly believe Texhnolyze should be appreciated as a modern classic. Everything about it is so close to perfection, but it'll always remain an underappreciated oddity because no one has the patience for an obscure slow-paced 24-episode series, not to mention the fact that anime and critical accaim rarely mix. Makes me sad.
