Does /r9k/ listen to metal anymore?
I like listening to this and imagining i live in a normie ridden land of vikings. Post your songs and get comfy

If we're posting theatrical metal, Gloryhammer is great for that: it's the cheesiest, most camp laden metal you can find, but when you're in the mood for that it's perfect.

Anything is welcome tbqh
Ive been listening to In Flames,Amon Amarth,Caliban,Arch Enemy,Rotting Christ,CoB and Alestorm

>Drunk is the best way to listen to metal
I disagree, waking up to metal with a cup of black coffee is the best experience. I did so today with some Priest and did a 5 mile run immediately afterward, felt great.

Holy fuck
She did a track with Kamelot?
I used to hate these niggers back in the day but the latest album was great and i hear they've changed vocalist because it used to be some emo chad

I honestly don't hear much of a differenxe between Roy Khan and Tommy Karevik but I like Tommy's energy a hell of a lot more. These guys are my favorite.
>>38024380
No not really.
Then again I'm 32 and you're probably like 20 years old. I didn't really fully grow out of it until I was about 22-23.
I still listen to some of my all-time favorite tracks but it's few and far between.
I have nothing against metal. It's just that it does one or two things, but it does those two things quite well and better than most music genres. I've listened to enough metal in my life though.

Metal for the LORD ALMIGHTY
>>38024380
i saw amon amarth a year ago on a festival. Pretty good band :)
Here's a bit of metal related frustration: Sabaton came to my city on May 7th, to the venue that I work at, but I wasn't allowed to work that night.
mfw
>normie ridden
kek i don't think that's what you mean to say
>>38025092
Not really. Most of it not all bands tend to sell out or go soft or "experimental" over time. That's not something that's exclusive to metal either, loads of bands and artists like to burn the bridge that made them successful to being with.
Anyways I always liked bands that weren't afraid to crossover into other genres.
DEP was great when they were at their jazziest.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4yxREs-mRM
Maximum The Hormone has been all over the music map with their songs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beN5ep5MrdY
I always really like symphonic metal, especially stuff like Dimmu Borgir and early-ish Cradle of Filth, and this song especially.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjKyzwqIT7s
Immortal were the first Black metal band I got into and they broke up technically, but the lead singer has his own project now which is quite good - and it's also one of the only metal thing I got into in the last decade
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yv-oC5zCwn8
Also Utsu-P who is a one-man project that does vocaloid metal, it's very interesting and he has a decent discography that's quite varied.

I missed Rotting Christ because i was broke as fuck. At least im going to see Planet of Zeus next week live
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hfDcx6pyyHA
>>38025393
>Planet of Zeus
Jealous. At least I got to work Gojira live, that shit was hype.
>>38025416
Have you seen Planet? Afaik they only play at European countries at the time. They will be showing up at the schoolwave festival in Athens and they will play with school bands and indie artists. They are pretty damn cool considering that they could refuse and do a gig where they get paid. Same for Rotting Christ ,they've done countless free shows.
Gojira are great too. I was listening to Stranded a few minutes ago. They are French right?
>>38025322
>Mfw venue intern
>Mfw sick the night Amon Amarth performed
>>38025483
Never, which is why I'm jealous. and yeah, Gojira are a group of Frogs.
Frogs I like, though.
>>38025392
I know the feel.
Im a huge fan of In Flames but they went to shit after "Soundtrack to your Escape"
2 albums since 2010 and ive only like one song from them.
Crossing over to other genres is difficult to get done right. The bands use this phrase many times to excuse their current shittyness. Like when Anders Friden said they are not a metal band which is what got In Flames popular as fuck in the first place.
>>38024966
>Roy Khan
>emo chad

Also pic related. Any other black metal fags here

I hate the genre game but I seriously hope you didn't call septicflesh black metal.
Also since you enjoy atmoshit like I do, listen to pic related. It's probably the best album of music I've ever heard.
>>38025683
Sounds great.
My only problem with "atmoshit" bands is that they rarely have a vocalist that i like but they make god tier music.
on another note

Fuck yeah. I'm seeing them in the fall.
>My only problem with "atmoshit" bands is that they rarely have a vocalist
Weird, I disagree. The vocals tend to be distorted beyond oblivion but there has definitely been a vocalist in most atmoshit bands I've listened to.

No matter how you feel about their studio stuff, Gojira put on a great fucking show. I'd recommend listening to their earlier records, like The Link and From Mars to Sirius. Very beefy riffs, excellent percussion and Joe's gutturals had some balls to them. Better songwriting, too.
>>38026345
Probably the oldest thing ive listened to from them is Flying Whales. Its just happened so that i never thought of them because none of my friends were fans. I'll look at more of their stuff though tomorrow. They seem really talented

>From Mars to Sirius
That's their best album. Flying Whales is my shit.
Literally /r9k/: The Album
>Yet it is a world below and above and in all eternity, a gift of fever, the wind of death that sustains the life in me, yes, the lightness of hovering in permanent anguish
>The limit is crossed with a weary horror: hope seemed a respect which fatigue grants to the necessity of the world
>Yet I gained this certitude: malediction, degradation, sown in me like seeds, now belonged to my flesh; I belonged to death, in harbouring a desire for the hideous, I was beckoning to death.
>The idea of God is pale next to that of perdition, but of this I could have no inkling in advance
>The idea of Salvation comes, I believe, from the one whom suffering breaks apart. He who masters it, on the contrary, needs to be broken, to proceed on the path towards the rupture.
>I was beyond withstanding my own ignominy. I invoked it and blessed it. I progressed even further into vileness and degradation. Am I resurging, intact, out of infamy?
>non-sense is the outcome of every possible sens, it is the start of transcendence, the dissolution that spreads without limits and the critical violation; what pleasure of inconceivable purity there is in being an object of abhorrence for the sole being to whom destiny links my life!
>Let us be a blight on the orchard, on all orchards of this world
>it is a task for a man who cannot bear any longer to be, a chore for the lost in the denial of free will: perinde ac cadaver!
