Honestly, 5'9" isn't a height so short people look and say "wow he is so short!". And that is what the term manlet means, a man who is noticeably short. I remember being 16 and on holiday (In NYC), I was around 5'9" at that age, and it was the first time I had ever looked around and thought "I am actually taller than a lot of the adults around here."
