I imagine that a lot of people on this board, like myself, thought that they were the smart kid growing up, just to have reality absolutely demolish their self-esteem in high school and/or college. My question is, how did the kids who were actually smart know that they were smart, as opposed to the kids who just thought they were smart? I'm especially curious about this because a lot of the people who I hung out with before high school were the smart kids.

We were told that we were smart by our parents because elementary school was too easy and didn't prepare us enough for what was in the future

Meh, intelligence is a meme. Hard work is what matters. I know a bunch of yards from highscool that ended up successful.

I never "thought" I was smart. My dad just forced this meme onto me.
I've always felt like an imposter and it led to me failing med school.
