My favorite, best drinks in the world though are Pepsi or Coke.

Coke taste bests if it's drunk from a can.
Pepsi tastes best if it's from a bottle or fountain

also it depends on what food you are eating :

Pizza ? Coke
hot dogs ? Pepsi
McDonald's ? Coke (tried it with Pepsi once, it was wierd)
Subway? Coke, they recently switched to Pepsi and Its fucking wierd, even though I like Pepsi a bit more than coke, I bring my own coke if I have subway .

In the UK traditional drinks like that are cream soda, dandelion&burdock and cloudy lemonade. Or sometimes pink lemonade. We don't have root beer and I am interested in this phenomenon. What does it taste like?

The closest thing you might liken it to is Sarsaparilla, has an almost medicinal taste to it.
I guess Dandelion & Burdock is also getting into the same ballpark but it isn't quite there.
