You have to degauss the thing. Big ol electromagnet would do it, its what the military does. Read up on degaussing online, they make relatively affordable handheld degaussing wands that you hold over an exposed harddrive. But, that takes minutes, not including the disassembly time (harddrives are tough to crack into and get the platters sometimes). Might as well use DBAN (Dariks Boot And Nuke) which takes hours and all it does is write over all your harddrives bits 32 times, destroying any data and pretty much making the drive useless since it'll have fuckloads of read/write errors after that due to over-use.

What you really need is On-The-Fly encryption, done well. Takes time and care to implement it correctly but it keeps the data on the drive encrypted. Power down and there's no unencrypted data left (whereas a sudden power loss to standard disk encryption will leave the data unencrypted on the drive). Learn how it works and do it properly.

cheapest method is to not do illegal shit on your computer, but honestly I think everyone, even the most innocent browser, should run encryption and have countermeasures just on the general principle.
