It means dedicating yourself to the things you love and find purpose in instead of the things others expect you to do.

Personally I said fuck it and starting waving a sword around in my backyard even though people said I was autistic, I started reading tons of philosophy even though people told me I was being pretentious, I started hitting on girls even though people told me I was awkward and I started working out even though people told me I was a skeleton and I started dieting even though people told me I was a faggot.

I achieved more in 6 months than I ever have before and people definitely don't insult me for it anymore, because I've actually accomplished things.

It's basically an excuse to avoid adulthood and extend their adolescence another decade or so, so they can avoid responsibility and continue a lifestyle of short term pleasure-seeking.

They just call it "finding yourself" because it lends more legitimacy to their choices than saying "I don't feel like being an adult yet".

That's a completely different definition from what I use, but I guess there's truth to it. You see plenty of people who say they're "finding themselves" go on useless holidays and not putting any effort towards anything productive, whereas I tried to find myself by working towards something I wanted to accomplish and seeing if I found some semblance of happiness in it.

To my surprise, I really did.

It just means finding a direction in your life, what your desires are, who you are comfortable being, things like that. It has become a bit of a buzzword these days for travelling around, doing jackshit. What is probably more effective, is trying out different interests to see what you like, focusing on self-improvement, try reading up on philosophy to define your own principles and purpose, etc.
