From what I've read, the Japanese were tolerant towards Africans. They liked black people because Asians liked to portray Buddha in black for some reason and they thought it was cool that there was a race of people who actually looked like Buddha statues.

I think a lot of whites were pretty tolerant of black people at the time too. This whole "blacks are inferior" thing started with Middle Easterners and spread to whites after America started having slaves.

They already had a miniseries about Shaka Zulu, but a revamped movie would be cool. He would either have to be the antihero or they would have to take a lot of creative liberties with the movie to make him look like a good guy though, since he was out of his fucking mind. I read that, after his mother died, he ordered servants to go out and kill mother cows so the calves would feel what he felt.

A movie about the Dahomey - Franco war would interesting as well. There's an almost 300 esque vibe to it. I can imagine what went through the mind of The French soldiers as they finally decided to stop treating the Female Dahomean fighters like women, and kick their shit in.

I should check out that series. Depiction of Shaka would certainly be controversial, he's often viewed among the black power crowd with rose tinted glasses. The man massacred millions, and as you mentioned, he lost it after his mom died. I highly recommend reading "Nada the lily. " It's an excellent work of historical fiction whose backdrop is the rise and fall of the Zulu. Shaka 's depiction is magnificent as he's portrayed as a very ambitious, yet flawed and wrathful man.
