Relationships are fundamental in life and something the absolute vast majority of people can relate to. This means the vast majority of media will capitalise on this and write romantic relationships into their story as easy character development and to make the audience relate to the character. If you want a female audience then you have to have relationships and romantic drama.

Unfortunately this means every character in modern media now has to have a relationship and drama. Getting really sick of this shit. I want to watch a movie about a group of soldiers in WWII but of course they have to interlace the situation with romantic drama... It's so generic.

This is why I've enjoyed Generation Kill. There's no bullshit and no women. It's not trying to capture an audience as much as it is just showing a story without all the garbage to try and appeal to a wider audience.
