Yeah i write overhand (or whatever it's called) and grip pens like a chinese calligraphy brush. It's a lot of bad habits but i've yet to be able to write underhand efficiently and legibly.

It has to do with the way boys and girls brain's develop. Girls develop faster and have better fine motor control at the age they teach writing so they generally have much better handwriting.
