It is true; at least compared to Europeans, though it's more superficial than anything.

Hell, it's even common to hear them saying Euro's are rude when they are on vacation simply because they don't operate under the same superficial expectations.

Southeast USA maybe, West coast and northeast are a bunch of assholes. I think it's because of our muh freedoms and less hung up on the class stuff combined with generally big personalities. Americans have poor understanding of the concept of strangers. They are just friends we don't know yet. Pretty comfy. Living somewhere like Japan where it's all so formal or bongistan where being an asshole for fun is bantz must be hell. I feel sorry for these third worlders.

I'm up in Minnesota and everyone here seems to be very kind and caring. But we're kinda all sad and want something to make us better.

I had a friend from europe a while back. They were astonished how much nicer we generally are.
But they noted that, when someone is a dick, they're more of a dick than people over there
