I like pictures that suggest things, but aren't so obtuse only the author knows what the fuck they mean. Or if they have a hidden meaning, the picture should still convey it visually.
This painting always felt haunting and scary to me; only after reading the story could I stop being scared of it. Very powerful, suggestive, emotional.
And of course it should have some degree of skill, not the kind of shit that makes you think "I could do that".
