Do whatever you're eventually going to do, just faster. People can brood and procrastinate for ages before ending up doing basically the first thing they thought of. The longer it takes for you to decide, the grater the odds that the choice is going to be entirely consistent with your personality.

That's not to say planning or researching is useless - it gives you an idea what your options are when things don't go as expected - but don't take ages to decide anything. Wasted time is 100% wasted, whereas choosing wrong or fucking up rarely leaves you in such a shit situation that you can't salvage something.

Here is my advice from someone who has a well paying job and supports himself.

Go to community college then try and get into uni on scholarships. Do not take out loans whatever you do.
Major in something that interests you but still has some chance of landing you a job. Don't do business or stem if you hate it but think it will pay. That's what I did and now I am miserable.
Join a club or association related to your major. All you have to do is show up and be friendly, you will go places. If you're like me, just take Xanax before hand in order to cope.
Try and talk to women and maybe date some, unless you want to be a bitter loner like myself.
Always remember that no matter how bad things are, they will 100% be worse after school, so just suck it up and get through it.
Work sucks, if you don't have someone else to live for besides work (family, passion, etc.) you will be a hollow husk of a person (like me). Remember that when you are working. Never put work above something else that is very important to you.
If all else fails at least remember that none of this matters and life is meaningless.

This is shit advice unless you've got some amazing insider knowledge that society will collapse in 10 years. Better advice is to get a decent hobby, or put serious effort into one you already have. Even a shitty hobby club will get you to know people and make friends and contacts. Humans are social creatures, sadly it comes down to knowing people rather than being the best worker.

As for jobs, a retail job is shit but is always something to fall back to if you get that initial experience in. Work as a checkout guy over the Summer or whenever, and you can put that on your CV as a relevant thing you've done. Now you'll be hired by shops for minimum wage and you always have that to go back to if shit hits the fan.
