How do people enjoy games for longer than a month?
With me it's like going through phases. I like a game, get interested in it outside of the game and start browsing content about it on youtube, wikis, etc. and then I just get bored of it and move on to another game. Even if the game has tons of things left to do, I'm just burnt out. Meanwhile I see people able and willing to put in thousands of hours into a particular game, almost like it's their lifestyle. How the fuck do they do it?

yeah I don't get the appeal in spending over 1,000 hours of gameplay on 1 game.
it just becomes repetitive.

I have sunk probably about 1000 hours in Super Smash Bros. and 600 hours in Street Fighter. I go to tournaments and play other people. The competition and the feeling that you can improve and get better always seems appealing to me.
This is how I feel about hobbies desu. No idea what makes normies compelled to do the same shit their whole lifes.

habitual gamers do it because it's repetitive and mindless

You need to settle a goal before you start the game like, finish it, unlock every Character. Also you could try some online games with lots of players who you can play against, like in e-sports.
they're using their imagination. how do you think people stay involved in books for longer than a week?
i play games with extremely high replay value, so i don't really know.
