An fps does sound cool. I kinda wanted to try my luck at making a very basic mech FPS. Basically just a plain dark level with some enemies rushing you and you having to survive. More of a proof of concept and seeing how to make the character feel heavy.

Same. Been doing it for a bit and I have some knowledge in it, but it's minimal. It's hard to focus on doing something alone. I tend to lack the motivation.

Personally i'm going for the flat shaded memepoly look, since it's fun to iterate with. Will transition to hand painted stuff later once I get used to working with models.

I usually stick to fps. Right now I'm in the Quake Champions beta and I bought Um Jammer Lammy yesterday. The music is catchy as fuck but it's tough as shit.
