Why aren't you using linux?

It's literally the master race OS.

Is that the default appearance of arch?

I threw Ubuntu on my shitty laptop I wiped, but it doesn't seem to understand how sleep mode works, so I have to manually turn it off and on with the power button if I leave it inactive or close it.

I have NEVER had my Linux PC crash unless I was doing something legitimately not possible on Windows that I didn't have a fix for. Meanwhile, Windows 10 constantly fucks up, chokes, and takes all my system resources up so it can phone home to Microshit. And if an update goes wrong, I have actual feedback I can use to fix the problem. Do you know what your solution when something goes wrong in Windows is?

You reinstall it. And this is on the fucking LTSB meant for business. What fucking admin is going to want to fix issues Microsoft causes when the only feedback is "something happened?" much less anybody even remotely competent with computers.

You don't belong here if you are a sole Windows user.

No reason other than the hipster factor. Literally only autistic people use it and get off on how difficult it is to do the most basic of tasks. You will have to learn how to make hardware drivers yourself, compile software
from source code instead of downloading an installer and research every single feature of the OS because by default it's probably no available and you have to manually set it up yourself. When all is said and done and you have your autist box actually running, none of the software you know and use on Windows is available. You can't game on it at all. Bring up this fact and you are mocked for playing games in the first place.

Basically this >>37677568

And then these >>37677606 idiots call you stupid. No I'm an adult. When I was a literal child things like this were cool but I no longer have the time or patience to create a fucking OS from the ground up and learn how to program just to use features that are considered basic in every other OS.

>>37677438
but You can't keep a straight face and say the Linux desktop is more difficult to use than the Windows desktop. If you can, you might want to check the release number of the Linux distribution you are using. Both GNOME and KDE have outpaced Windows for user-friendliness. Even KDE 4, which has altered the path of KDE quite a bit, will make any given user at home with the interface. But the Linux desktop beats the Windows desktop for more reasons than just user-friendliness. It's far more flexible than anything Microsoft has ever released. If you don't like the way the Linux desktop looks or behaves, change it. If you don't like the desktop included with your distribution, add another. And what if, on rare occasion, the desktop locks up? Well, Windows might require a hard restart. Linux? Hit Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to force a logout of X Windows. Or you can always drop into a virtual console and kill the application that caused your desktop to freeze. It's all about flexibility... something the Windows desktop does not enjoy. Windows plays REALLY well with Windows. Linux plays well with everyone. I've never met a system I couldn't connect Linux to. That includes OS X, Windows, various Linux distributions, OS/2, Playstations... the list goes on and on. Without the help of third-party software, Windows isn't nearly as interoperable. And we haven't even touched on formats. With OpenOffice, you can open/save in nearly any format (regardless of release date). Have you come across that docx format yet? Had fun getting it to open in anything but MS Word >=2007?

When I first tried Debian I was constantly met with this error for over 13 hours, those 13 hours would have to be the longest amount of time I've ever had to search through google in a single day.

The second time I installed Debian I actually got a couple of things work although awkwardly, like needing a script to run UMS where on windows it would simply be clicking on UMS and never having to worry about it again.

I need to put in more effort than I would normally do with windows, which isn't a problem because I'm a NEET and I have no responsibilities whatsoever, but it's grating having to run into issues with no or shitty solutions.

Here's the thing. No one needs flash. I thought nowadays even the rich web pages use html5/js features.

I know you people would rather be reading your favorite trap/cuck/femanon/soc/racebait threads, but I really don't mind an occasional "loonix" thread.

I can't understand why anyone would care so earnestly about a desktop environment, yet there are at least 8 of you in this thread obsessing over it. Why?
>>
I do, because its environments (KDE, XFCE, etc) are infinitely more user friendly that the shit Windows forces on you. I should have kept my copy of windows installed though because although you gain a lot of new things with Linux and its overall superior, with tons of free programs that work better, there will always be that piece of software that you'll need to boot windows for with no way around it (WINE sucks ass). Not talking about games, I am talking about WORK stuff.

I absolutely hate the little snowflakes in the internet that jack off at hard installations of obscure distros. If you are new to this and know nothing about programming just install Mint or Ubuntu in Dual Boot with Windows and try it for a while. Stay within the two or three most popular distros and don't switch to try new ones just because you're bored and wanna try them all. Don't let the neckbeards fool you into wasting your time.

And also don't fall for the free software meme and Stallman's definition of "freedom". The guy hasn't worked at any serious job at programming for decades and just lives off of activism (aka bitching).

Linux is great but stay away from the ne/g/beards, they're cancer.

whats so good about linux?

Install Antergos. It couldn't be easier.
>>
I dual installed ubuntu and I used it so infrequently that I can't remember the password. I guess I'll just uninstall it. Linux did save a dead old laptop though.

Pros:
>Free software: substitutes for every major program
>Free operating system
>No botnet
>Can customize Desktop Environment
>making simple programs is easy with bash
>better support for programming and installing programming stuff
>better performance is possible
Cons:
>Sometimes hardware drivers don't work perfectly (or at all)
>Not good for gaming / wine sucks
>Occasionally there is one program that you really need that you can't run on linux

I just want a computer to work and do the tasks I need it to do with minimal time overheard. I'm not interested in customization-autism or spending an inordinate amount of time fucking around with it, I literally just need it to be serviceable.
>>
My Windows HD finally died like a week ago, which is fine because I intended to switch over to Linux anyway, and I had everything backed up. The problem is what I have to work with now are two 500GB hard drives. I just can't wrap my head around installing Linux on RAID with encryption. I have been living off of a Manjaro stick ever since.
>>
>>37679613
Literally just install Ubuntu don't fall for anything else.

Well don't install ubuntu, install a flavor of Ubuntu like Xubuntu or Ubuntu MATE. Anyways, look at Ubuntu flavors and decide which you want to install
>>
>>37684629
Sorry dude I'm not a mouth breathing retard when it comes to computers so I don't know what you want me to say?

>wow holy shit I can't click something? this OS is BULLSHIT

Only real issues I've ever had are because Broadcom are niggers and the drivers for wifi are shit-tier and nonfree, so they aren't always shipped. But then that's not Linux's fault
>>

I am. Android and ChromeOS are both Linux.
