Is the Marines a good branch to join?
>Have been getting in shape and have cut from 190 to 155
>can meet all the running, push up, pull up, and crunches requirements.
>my recruiter was impressed when I didn't have tattoos, don't smoke or drink, and am an Eagle Scout with good standing in my old troop.
What do you guys think? Better yet, any Marine or veteran in general on here who have suggestions or stories?
>>
>>37647337

Why do you want you to join the military? Why do you want to join the Marines specifically?
>>
>>37647337
no

airforce/navy is way better if you want to have some sort of applicable skill after leaving
>>
>>37647389
What if you just want to be a killer and kill people?
>>
Join the Navy, kid. Unless you are a jarhead.
>my recruiter was impressed when I didn't have tattoos, don't smoke or drink
Like I said, they expect jarheads.
>>
>>37647365
I figured it is the best way I can give to the country.
This has always been something that has called out to me since I was very young.
>>
>>37647337
Why the marines are not army or chair force?
why go through all the extra trouble?
you cant even pick what MOS you get either
>>
>>37647415
become an army ranger at least
>>
>>37647425
He said I would likely become an officer if I joined. Also the Eagle Scout thing gives me a small instant promotion.

Listen man, Iraq is over, and there's no new troops heading anywhere anytime soon.
If you want to join to kill sandniggers or some shit you'd join the SEALS or some other special forces covert ops type of shit.

What is it you want to do exactly?
>>
>>37647452
>He said I would likely become an officer if I joined

I'm pretty sure they tell everyone that just to get you in
>>
>>37647452
you don't just join and become an officer you need to go to school first and go in AS an officer already
>>
>>37647465
>>37647481

I've been going to community college and am going for a computer science degree. I've already got my associate's. Getting the last two years of college helped with would be an absolute blessing.
>>
>>37647337
Just be wary op, alot of people get a little fucked in the head from some of the stuff they do.
I have 3 friends in military and two go to counciling or some shit
>>
>>37647501
Quick question, why make this thread? It's obvious that our opinion is not going to change your mind.
>>
>>37647535
It's always good to get some insight. I take it wherever I can get it. I had one on /k/ earlier today.
>>
Im active duty right now, and dont fall for the warrior act the recruiters feed you. The heat has died down, you probably wont even see let alone kill a sand nigger.
Be smart and consider all the other branches and think of what job you want afterwards.
You could always be a marine POG in what you want but thatd be even more retarded.
Why put up with the all of the bullshit and slow promotion and shit equipment to be a POG, lol.
>>
>>37647501
Repeat after me, Recruiters will say damn near anything to you to get you to enlist.
If you have a college degree and want to become an officer the best route you can take is going through Officer Candidate School. Just get through your last 2 years of college and then think about joining the military, that way you can go in as an officer.
>>
>>37647501
Why not do ROTC for the army? I'm fairly sure the army lets you do it in your last two years, and ROTC pays for your college as well (if I remember correctly).
>>
>>37647427
I serisouly hope you aren't this retarded.
t. Iraq and Afghanistan veteran
>>
>>37647590
THIS

Get done with college my dude. Earn your degree. Seeing that you have your life together already, don't just jump into the military thinking its a great experience. Most of it is boring and shitty. When you come out, you won't have nearly as much opportunity as you assume you will. Also, a lot of vets get fucked in the head even if they see limited combat. Don't risk it.

Like >>37647590 said, go in as an officer. That is, if you REALLY want to spend years in some shithole country and put your life at risk for some oil.
>>
>>37647415
Then you will be very disappointed. If you go infantry have fun picking up trash and cleaning rocks

That wasn't the OP (me) you were replying to in >>37647389
>>
>>37647711
That doesn't change the fact that you want to join a peace time army and will be a glorified janitor if you enlist.
You aren't going to be killing any one.
>>
>>37647337
>can meet all the running, push up, pull up, and crunches requirements.

Marine here. If what you said isn't bullshit, then you should be able to do well in the Corps. Just don't have any problem with authority and PT well and you'll be fine. I'd also suggest learning to shoot if you don't know already.

As long as you can PT well and look good on paper, you can pick up rank quickly.
>>
>>37647389
Pretty much this. Hell even if you want to go in just to be a killer, dont go marines. It is horrible.
>>
>>37648112
I'm a farm boy. Shooting isn't an issue.
>>
>>37647389
airforce is for pussies. a guy qualified for the marines would laugh off air force training and combat.

as for navy, you dont do shit in the navy.

in the marine corps you at least get to fire your gun.

Since this is related, I got drafted to go to greek conscription in september.
I live in germany and I basically can't speak any greek but apparently that is not a reason not to go.
Kind of I'm thinking that this might be a good opportunity to change my life and get my shit together so that is why I'm not just ditching it at the cost of having to go to jail if I set foot in greece.

Anyone know what I can expect roughly?

Lmao. The marines think anyone who doesn't see combat is a pussy, even other Marines. It's because they are mostly grunts who can't imagine themselves having a better life outside of scraping at the bottom of a barrel shooting at hillsides across the world. And AF guys don't exactly care because they have the best living conditions.
>>
>>37650335
I heard some airforce guys talk about having a swimming pool and vidya during basic
>>
>>37647337
It depends. For me I joined the army as a human resources specialist so that once I leave I can at least have some sort of office administration experience. I plan on going to school online while I'm doing my service. I have yet to ship out but yea it all depends on what you want to do in life man.
>>
>>37650488
If anyone should have a pool, shouldn't it be the Navy? Also, we're talking about "Marines", which I find ironic.
>>
OP are you still there? This thread is ancient.
>>
>>37647337
Navy corpsman here. Don't join the marines you'll be stuck doing dumb shit like vacuuming parking lots because some retard fucked up. The marines operate like a cult a very stupid cult. Join the army or navy. Airforce is the best though
>>37648354
Navy works their ass off.
