I'm a psychologist, they won't admit it but every social scale is pinned to income. The higher the income the higher the status. Low income or none means 0 status. Height, education, face etc literally mean nothing.

That's probably in USA. In Europe high level of education and being cultured is being appreciated, even if the income was low, as it is on many fields of culture work or humanistic sciences. So, if you are educated and cultured, your status is more than 0, even if you are poor.
