The whole point of Marxism is that social conditions are rooted in material conditions. The only social distinction that actually means anything is therefore class - your relation to work. The interests of those who own the means of social production are fundamentally at odds with those who don't. It comes down to workers and owners. Socialism is nice and all but it does put an increased weight on bureaucracy just making it more convoluted and annoying to work with. Personally what I think we need is the cutting of pointless laws and regulations, making it easier for people to start up their own businesses and government splitting up big banks and corporations. It's entirely possible too, we took Microsoft to court in the 90's when they were HUGE and cut them down to size. We can do it again for companies like Disney and apple. Purge the corporatists out of politics and don't bail out any companies regardless of how big they are. The rest will fall into line after that.

I do know that corporate interests and corruption run far and deep into US government but I'm a reformist and hope that we can clean house one day, even if it takes a while. Full blown socialism, communism, fascism or any other extreme ideology will only create a new set of problems and will undoubtedly end America's place as world hegemony which would be really, really bad.
