I have a lot of good memories playing this game. First comfy singleplayer, then haphazard multiplayer, then real multiplayer with friends and later on a comfy server where we did a bunch of shenanigans and eventually got almost banned and our buildings demolished.

Good times.

Normies ruined the /comfy/ aspect of the game. They changed how the game took its direction in fact; they are the death of this game's community and simplicity.

I set up a shitty little server for me and like 4 of my friends. They didn't play as much as I did, but I set the spawn point to this small desert continent. It was a whole continent, but on the small side. Lit the whole thing up with torches placed in an autistically perfect 5x5 grid. We had some good times there.

I kind of want to do it again once I have a computer to host the server on and an other to play on. I had it running 24/7 so they could pop on any time to add to their little creations, or go adventuring in caves or the nether or the end at any time. It was comfy as fuck even though we were all too old for it, even back then.
>>
I still play minecraft for hours by myself.
I don't like multiplayer, though. I liked it way back when it was in alpha and people just fucked around on those free public servers.
I wish we could have another big 4chan server, that would be exactly like that - no factions, no plugins, no nothing. People would only organize themselves in chat and on threads.
But that would never happen because /pol/ or some other over-populated board will always cheat, outsmart and zerg-rush everyone else and the server will die.
I wanna taste that sweet, sweet alpha experience again on a larger scale and with more shitposting SO BAD, but I can never have that.
>>
>>37602044
True, they did promise to make it like Dwarf Fortress but it seems like ever since it jumped in popularity they completely changed course. It's a shame really, that would of been truly amazing had it come to fruition

I'm building a world, based on probably the early industrial period. I'll build Aceria (the proto-N&S American condinents) I'm having a hard time with Siberia, it being so big and all. But I think these would be good borders for an industrial aged fantasy realm.

The taxplan will be basically Bush's "fuck the poor" plan.

Wheat will come from villages outside the city. The village merchants will go to the markets or to merchants to sell food to the people of the city, cited were demographically negative until late-industrialization so I imagine villagers will move in and die constantly. After I finish each country I plan on posting it on Planet Minecraft so people can download as the world progresses. Like expansion pacts but free.

I unironically played this game to death during freshman year of highschool. I installed a shit ton of mods like Computercraft and Microblocks building all those cool modern architecture mansions and simple computers. It's honestly the game that made me get a CS degree. I remember my first diamond. I was at my nana's house (died a few months ago) on a crappy but new laptop.I had built a home in a snowy forest and dug a tunnel staircase straight down it was so dark I didn't know I got it (before they gave you XP) I dug a hole in my floor and put a sign up that said (my first diamond) it disappeared and I was so upset lol

I can never think of what to build. All I do is make a small square wooden house with a stone floor and that's it. I suck ass at this game.
>>
>>37602928
I remember at college some guy came in to give a talk to the CS majors about jobs in the industry and someone asked him about game dev.

He told a story about how the last six months of every 18-month development cycle were "crunch time", where 80+ hour weeks were mandatory, and how this is commonplace in game dev because so many people want to work for vidya gaems that companies know they can just hire fresh devs, burn them to the ground in two years, and then hire new ones.

Yeah it's really sad, especially how there are so many people who are passionate about video games get their souls turned to dust by the time they get their feet wet. That's a big reason why Indie developers are becoming more relevant these days, not only do they have potential to rake in massive amounts of funds from a unique concept but also give the developers actual freedom and communication within their co-workers. The more people realize this the quicker AAA companies will die out, even if that's a good and a bad thing.

>Practically run the server's economy

>We have 8 people in this thing and it's growing
>Suddenly, life happens and I can't get on my computer w/ minecraft for atleast a month
>That's all it took
>Come back to the server and i'm spawned in the desert with the jungle in the distance with nothing on me
>Walk to it and come across the treehouse
>Climb up the ladder
>Everythings broken, glass is taken in some spots, floor has holes in it
>Blocked off paths to the houses with wood and stairs
>Cobblestone area is now just a single wall with 8-10 blocks, everything else is gone
>The main hub, where you came in from the ladder, only has a single chest, sign, and an Anvil
>Only thing left is my locked chest under the ladder with my diamond set
That's not even the kicker, I was pissed, and I wanted to know who the fuck did this to my comfy treehouse
>Contact a mod. NickG or something like that
>He begins looking at blocks and shit to analyse who did it with mod powers
>He goes into the hallway then stops moving
>Literally goes afk for fucking 10 hours
>I was so god damn frustrated, i literally wanted to push this guys eyeballs in with my thumb

This is why I had roll back features on my server.

That way people that loved to do this shit could get their jollies and I could just roll it back and no harm done.

Anyone else hate how bloated the game is now? When I started playing in alpha 1.2.1 there were less than 50 blocks I think.

classic was great, i still remember the first time i played. some m8s from highschool convinced me to play n had a good ol time. went around improving things (back when servers were just clusterfucks of shit randoms came on and made then abandoned). good times.

>once they introduced pistons i stopped desu. it went from a nice construction game into... an engineering game.
Kinda like when e2 got big in gmod. I loved building random shit out of props and simple tools but if you went into any build server, it was just people standing around an empty map with the e2 editing icon above their head. Then whatever thing they made would usually crash the server.
>>
once the game stopped focusing on blocks and started focusing on items and mobs it crapped the bed.

You don't have to use them ya dink, in fact only the severely autistic do

I liked minecraft during its early alpha phases for a few hours. It was rough, but it worked and hiding from monsters was the only fun thing in it. I re-visited it soon after release, but couldn't find it very fun. I don't get any joy out of building shit, creative or not it all just feels so pointless.
>>
>>37604007
Life is pointless anon, all that really matters is that we enjoyed our time here while it lasted
>>
>>37603963
its just not the same tho... besides ive changed i guess duno wat i would do

actually i do, i always tried making my hidden base with a mine and railway tracks goin all over... it always got too long tho
>>
>>37604027
True, but I feel that things like exciting combat and running away from spooky things isn't pointless because its a thrill that I'll remember. Minecraft didn't really have that.
Building a neat treehouse was okay for the first time, but then I started wandering "Is there a point to this?" Its a weird situation. I guess some people enjoy the idea of creating a comfy abode, but I felt it was so pointless. Maybe it was because I played solo and then it doesn't matter at all. Maybe its something that is meant to be shared with other people.
>>
Who cell phone minecraft here?
>>
>>37601743
The only reason I don't play Minecraft that much anymore is because I feel too old for it

Every time I go on a server, the majority of other players are half my age
>>
>tfw never played minecraft
>>
>>37602220

For games it's typically a longing to return to a previous community or build.

See why peoples cocks get rock hard for vanilla wow. Or why people long to return to Minecraft back before it became mainstream and the community was flooded with 6 year olds and their parents who can't understand how creativity can be fun.

Nothing as big and innovative as Minecraft has come out since it's release. Mount & Blade came out 9 years ago, and Dwarf Fortress has been around for more than a decade.
It's been 8 years of 2D pixel platformers, 2deep4u walking simulators and clunky, early-access survival games. None who have sold big. Indie games are nothing but second-rate games at this point.

That's mostly the harbour district, the slums are away from the actual mage quarters. I'm building a smuggler's dock though, and I imagine organized crime coming from the Slums so I'll put that there for the criminal's sake.

once they brought in more people than the original few it went to shit. I remember buying the music from their videos because the adventures made such a huge impression on me when I was younger :(
>>
>>37601743

I remember in the early days of MC, back before it had a large following and Lets Players making videos about it, making a little cottage on an island a small distance away from the shore and having a good view of a mysterious cave near the shoreline. The fact that I hadn't read up on the wiki and therefore didn't know everything about what was in the game and the fact that I was totally alone in the vast world along with the sometimes eerie music that played made it fairly creepy sometimes.

Comfy game. My friend and I have our own server and we have a huge ass world. We've gotten pretty autistic about it too, with books and stuff about the lore of the world. This is the current project we're working on, anyone got any good ideas for names for the regions?

That's really accurate. They are over complicated and kinda go against how Minecraft usually feels
