Single implies I'm somewhat actively looking/pursuing a relationship and partake in conversations and activities I could do so
but I don't so classing my self as a 'single' guy is completely foreign; but people don't understand you can be something other than single or taken (only that you're taking a short break from other due to relationship troubles)
