They would definitely have the right to call the cops and report a gunshot in their neighborhood if they heard it. If you want to shoot your rifle in the comfort of your own property, go buy a ranch out in the middle of nowhere.

It's illegal to discharge a firearm in a residential neighborhood. So yes they can come inside.

I know this because when I shot my dog with a 20 gauge the cops came pounding the door down with pistols drawn. If I had not answered they most likely would have come in.

Fucking christ. Why not just take the dog to a vet to be put down? Or if the dog was just old and you wanted to Old Yeller the poor guy, why not just take him out to the woods or something, let him run and play, then shoot him?
