The only complaint I have is that being a less popular language, you won't have the material support of a big language like French, or the online learning community of a highly desired language like Japanese.

Some good resources: the Bagus Sekali textbook series will get you to intermediate level. Mintz's An Indonesian & Malay Grammar for Student is a very readable reference grammar. So too is Sneddon's Understanding Indonesian Grammar.
