Who here /programmer/?

I'm learning PHP for work right now. As someone with a lot of C and Java experience, I've got to say it's almost identical syntactically to those, so it's not difficult to pick up.

Yes, why isn't OP learning Cobol? That's the only language with a real future.
>>
>>37472572
PHP is outdated. There are plenty of modern frameworks that are much safer and faster. I'd say Go is a better language to learn. It's developed by Google and it's much faster than any Python or JS framework or so I'm told. I'm not into web development anyway.
>>
I'm also Java/C/C++ kind of person but I'm currently having an internship in a web dev company bec it pays (now doing Node) ;_; idk if I made a wrong decision
>>
>>37472649

That must be why there's fifteen gorillion jobs recruiting for people that know it.
>>
>>37472649

Go will abandoned by Google in a couple of years like they abandon everything else.

"Web development" isn't real programming anyhow. Python and JavaShit aren't even true languages, that's like the jackass in accounting who thinks he's a programmer because he uses Excel.

it's standardized to the point where you'll always know what response you will receive and what a possible error will look like

it can be used to transmit data in any shape and over any protocol, whereas REST is eternally dependent on HTTP

you can generate test cases, documentation and even a user interface/form just from a single WSDL

REST is overblown and awful

It should have these things:
-Full OSI model APIs
-2D and 3D graphics
-Cross-platform interface bindings
-Propositional logic
-Sensor, camera, and mic APIs

I can't think of a single language that does it all in a neat package in 2017.
What else could be easier about programming, any suggestions?

You need to do (i%3 && i%5) before the other two or else it won't check for it at all.

but i don't know any back end stuff like reactJS/angularJS/Node or whatever it seems they want people to know. i've mostly done game projects in Java, C#, C, C++ and Javascript. i feel like i can learn anything if i'm given enough time though.
>>
This is 2017, by the way. You can just dictate your facts, rules, and relationships to a voice-recognition engine running in PROLOG to program shit stuff.
If you're spending all of your time coding stuff by hand, you're a cuck.

Anon, without wanting to sound like a leftist fagget, there really is more to life than the money you make.

Look, i was born in a pretty poor country by western european standards, i too hated the country for it, as soon as i could i got a dev job in London and i hated it even though i made good money, i hated the fast paced life of it, how fake everyone was. I went back home one year later and fuck am i happy now. i make way less money but fuck it, people here work to live, not live to work. And its fucking great.

Most major companies provide boot camps for rookies. They teach you basics and then you start out as a junior developer or whatever. You can climb up the career ladder from there. If you know say Java I think it should be rather easy for you if you just looked. Either way, good luck, anon.

I still have to be stuck in Europe, with the shitty culture and language, with no future for a family or social life.
Give me a decent sized town in the US anyday over London or Berlin or whatever shithole is here. God I hate Europe

>no social life

Cmon you'll realize that that's entirely on you, not where you live. I too thought like that, until i tried living somewhere else, and i was exactly the same social fuck up here or in the UK or everywhere i went.

But hey, im not trying to convince you. My advice is do it, try living there. Even though i disliked my experience i also loved it, because i went back home, to my little corner of southwestern Europe, and i no longer felt like i should leave it ever again.

>>
>>37475984
man if that's really the case then that'd be amazing. all i want is an entry level job so i can move out and have some sort of baseline in my life.
>>
>>37476496
don't learn c++ as your first language. if you like the idea of doing low level stuff, learn c. if you like the idea of object-oriented programming, pick any other object-oriented language.

This. Start with Javascript or C# or something.
>>
>>37476496
c++ is shit.

learn c if you really want low-level.

but, i'd suggest some other languages such as perl, haskell, ruby, python...

Unis have courses on/teach Haskell? AFAIK the majority of unis run with either Java or Python.

how exactly does hacking and programming work? is there some sticky or video that i can watch to really understand? even though ive been on 4chan for years i feel like everyone here is way more computer literate than i am.
>>
>>37476496
learn it with me bud, we can be learning pals

don't listen to those guys, one suggested fucking haskell lol
>>
>>37478763
90% of 4chan is very computer illiterate, including /g/. Don't learn "hacking" like a fucking script kiddie, learn some actual programming and security. Read some books and documentation on any programming language, the popular ones fundamentally work similar so once you learn one very well the rest will be easy.

I mean, I am too depressed to code anymore...

I can't, I don't do anything anymore really.
>>
>>37479290
programming books are a waste of time, especially for beginners. it's better to look up tutorials online and then start making simple projects once you're good enough.
>>
>>37479444

I agree but tutorials online are too varying in quality. A lot of shitty, outdated, and misleading tutorials for C++ for example.
>>
>>37479444
>programming books are a waste of time
Currently the worst advice given so far

If you just want to learn how to do something then go with tuts
If you want to understand what is what and why, get yourself a good beginners book
>>
>>37477107
Don't listen to this guy, c++ is fine. He just a faggot.
>>
I'm not a real dev. I haven't done anything outside of a few uni courses and related projects on Java and C#, basics of C. I just don't know where I'd go from here.

Anyone want to learn C++ with me?

Using pic related to learn, written specifically for people who haven't programmed before but are willing to make a serious attempt. And it was written by Stroustrup himself, so you can't get any more authoritative than that.

There's a pdf of the book so you don't even have to buy it I just need a friend to learn with pls ;_____;
