What did robots do at night before the internet? Just sit up and watch TV?
>>
>>37462149
Pretty much, just sit at home alone watch TV maybe write shit or have a little project/hobby they do to occupy themselves. Run midle trains, build mode plains it put together a ship in a bottle. Something to keep your sanity.
>>
>>37462262
You think maybe they didn't stay up all night like modern robots? I could see them turning in earlier after the Tonight show or 9 to 11 o'clock television programming ended.

The internet goes back pretty far in time too. Maybe most adult aged robots in the 90s were online by then, and even in the 80s there were BBSes.

From 1994-98 I played video games and watched infomercials. I didn't start reading much until I got the internet

watching TV while playing offline pc games late into the night were some of the best times of my young life.
>>
>>37462353

Maybe, but I didn't know of many people growing up in the late 80s and early 90s that used the pre WWW internet much. Files were shared via floppy at school and most of us had only a vague idea of computer networks existing aside from academia and the military. (WarGames movie, etc.)

I first heard about the Internet on CNN or something about 1994, back when Al Gore was kickstarting the information superhighway stuff.
>>
>>37462149
I was a baby in 1996.
I didn't start using the internet until 2005, before that I rode my bike and played outside.
Ebaumsworld is kino.
>>
>>37462149
I have a hunch a lot of them would buy porn magazines every week and look through them at night before jerking off. There was reading material too. Erotic novels and Penthouse letters.
>>
>>37462353
This was early 90s napster before most people knew about the internet. Floppy copying and sharing was a big problem and companies used to put codes in hard copy instruction booklets to ensure people had the genuine copy of a game.

I'm not old enough to have lived back then, but when I was a kid and didn't have my own computer I stayed up watching television all night or playing playstation.
>>
>>37462149
before the internet i was a smol child. I played neopets in second grade. I guess I played cops and robbers ice cream with my family and read books and went to bed at 8

In the 70s the CB Radio was popular with lonely people. It's where a lot of the conventions of chat rooms (including sex chat) got started. Ham radio was less common.

Phone sex chat lines were a thing too. The precursor to modern cam girls.
>>
I was never a robot before the internet. The internet turned me into one.
>>
>>37462863

i wonder about this too. notice how while there's indeed older losers, you don't see too many older robots who have that reclusive aloof robot personality? i really do think it was the BBS boards and internet that create robotdom.
>>
>>37462863
then you aren't a robot

a robot is a robot no matter the environment

you're a fucking normie who probably thinks he's a robot because you collect "rare pepes" and are "so cripplingly depressed XD"

My family had a family computer in the center of the hallway. So everyone passes by you and can see what your doing. It was there for years, but I never touched it unless I had a school project.

It wasn't until I was like 9 when I started browsing the internet regularly.
So I just played N64, PS2, and Gamecube all day (born in 95). A little TV here and there.I didn't get my own PC until like 2012 (it was an old computer that couldn't even run TF2), and didn't build a gaming PC until 2014.

Only thing I regret is missing out on is the golden era of MMO's that people brag about. Really wish I experienced early WoW in its prime, or all the popular older strategy games.

Watched cow and chicken ran around with friends rode bikes

Before that when it was the 90s and the internet wasn't much I remember one time there was an ice storm and me and my dad played hockey and there was a girl down the road and we would hang out and pretend to fish with sticks.

Model trains are certainly an autistic hobby, but I'm not sure many robots of the past engaged in it. It's pretty expensive.
>>
>>37463043
that is true

The fucking trees cost like 50 bucks

No I just used to go to the model train store as a kid a lot and gawk everything

I have 3 trains and just a basic circle track
>>
>>37463113
I used to go to one of those as a teen before the internet really took off. It was also a gaming store (/tg/ gaming). The place was open until midnight, and it seemed like people stayed around even later.

What did robots do at night? They hung out with each other and argued about sci-fi or played DnD. Or they went to pool halls and arcades and just lingered. If they were older they sat at home and watched Matlock with mother before going to bed at 9.
>>
>>37462149
Had a friend who worked third shift and we'd play Magic or sometimes Axis and Allies.
>>
I was on the GEnie electronic information service for a few years . It was like CompuServe. Boards to post on, games etc. I also had an Atari home computer. I watched a lot of tv, read books, masturbated. I collected porn magazines.
>>
>>37462149
I used to sit in my room drawing, while listening to foreign ULA radio channels. There wasn't all night long radio broadcasting yet in my country. We also had only 3 tv channels. Sometimes I read books, mostly sci-fi.

I want to make a miniature model of Isla Vista and Santa Barbara and put Elliot Rodger live his life in it and make a stopmotion animation of it. This is my secret dream.
>>
>>37463171
I still do that with tabletop friends. I play 40k. Granted most of them are above robots because most have jobs to be able to afford these hobbies and arent completely antisocial irl.
>>
>>37462149
They were doing drugs and suicide.
>>
>>37462149
That or maybe read, if they're the bookish type.
