It's not a good anime I've been a NEET for 7 years and thought I would like it and relate to it but I thought it sucked. The only parts I liked were the few episodes about the suicide cult and then the ending.

That's 99% of all anime aimed towards teens and young adults, especially the latter bit about having pussy thrown at them.

Typically though the protagonist will be too much a of hard worker or diligent student to care about the free pussy thrown at him, even if he accidentally molests the love interests and/or younger sister in a comical way at least once per episode.

I avoid most anime that are about a 16-20something year old single male living in Tokyo. Some are different enough but most are just the same thing even if there's demons and witches involved.

Some of the best anime look like smug anime girl moeshit, but are much more than that, like Nichijou and Madoka Magica.

It's pretty similar to the anime: Take the anime, strip out the parts where he leaves the house, minus the park. Remove all non misaki/satou/yamazaki parts. Change any mention of hitomi to "the upperclassman", and remove any scene she's in that wasn't in highschool.

So it's basically the same, but it's only the main arc. The most drastic changes are what got censored for TV. For example, Satou's brief porn addiction wasn't regular porn.

You don't need to know about magical girls in anime to appreciate it either. The show does a straightforward job of explaining what magical girls are and then shit gets real really fast. It deals with selfishness and desire and sacrifice in a really fantastic way.

My only one minor complaint is how the main character does nothing but cry for like 10 episodes.

Oh yeah as an anime it's really pretty awful but we like it because of how we can relate to the main character in a lot of scenarios
