i was homeless by choice for 3 years and got along just fine. i never had to beg for money, but i did get on food stamps. i chose to live in a tent instead of the shelter because i honestly just dont like being around the other homeless people. if I ever needed money I would collect cans and turn them in for 5 cents a piece. there were a lot of places that provided services for the homeless in this one town i stayed in for a while... you could get a prepaid card for use at a laundromat, you could shower once a day, you could use their kitchen and eat their food. the churches had 1 meal every day and provided clothes and blankets. it was pretty awesome but ive got a wife and kid now so I gotta provide a place to live.

Started after my mom died and there wasn't really anything for me in my hometown other than shitty minimum wage jobs. Met some travelers, started out riding with them, then started hitching with a friend. He showed me how to ride trains. I can't think of any stories that are too ridiculous. Got picked up by a medic from American Ninja Warrior. Someone kicked down like 3 roxy 30s in Montana, lol. I've made it about halfway across the country in like 20 hours once hitching. I've already seen every state except Alaska.

op where do you live? i was homeless a lot in my youth but in canada you can get bux to prevent you from being homeless. try looking into getting government money, thats what its there for. you can claim a lot in mental illness and stuff, the only reason why i got disability bux was because i actually was homeless. they had a homeless to welfare program thing and i went with it

im a pale white jewish kid too from a upper middle class home, i just was never even remotely loved or cared for by either parent and fought with them constantly and ended up being a broken human being

i get disabilities now which pays for my apartment, but ive been homeless a lot between 16-21, otherwise id 100% be where op is

I was homeless for 3 or so years as well before i decided to start being a wageslave.
After the first year i lost my mind though, and while ive been able to hide it people still treat me like a weirdo.
But i think thats just because i stay silent most of the time.

Anyway being homeless in my city isnt a huge surprise, alot of people are still struggling from the reccession which was almost a decaded ago now.
In fact i think i read somewhere that homelessness has actually increased by 23% in my town.
Looking back on it, my time being out in the streets, im sort of glad i went through it.
I think it matured me in a certain few ways.
But it was really awful, other hobos KNOW when you are also a hobo.
And they will bug the shit out of you/try to rape you in your sleep.
I knew a guy that called himself machete eddie.
He was a Vietnam vet and true to his name, he carried a machete.
You see what he did was he stuff the blade down his pant leg, and had the handle covered under his shirt.
We was kinda cool, but like all hobos, he was fucking crazy.

Currently homeless, but got a SUV. I got a part time job doing retail. Got a gym membership to 24 hr fitness so i can shower and work out.
The money i get from my job pays my insurance and gas and whatever else i need.
I got food stamps by using a friends address, which gives me an extra $174 (burgerfag) a month, which pretty much lasts me the whole month since i only eat like 1 meal a day.
At night i park at one of the several different casino parking lots, put up the windshield covers, and sleep in the air matress in the back of my grand cherokee. Its got really dark tinted windows so that helps with privacy a bit.
I try to spend as much time out of my car as i can, so it doesnt get claustraphobic.
Not sure what im gonna do when winter comes though, might have to ask work for a transfer somewhere warmer and go do the same thing there.
