I'm about to watch The Godfather.

I've heard and read a bunch of praise on this movie, and despite how famous it is, I still have never seen it.

Is it actually a good movie, or just one of those things that normies love to get on the bandwagon and praise? Please be honest, robots. Ignore the movie's influence on modern cinema and culture and tell me if it's an actual good movie or not?
>>
i love mob movies and i really liked it.
>>
It's good. Overrated, but still good.
>>
I believe lots of things are "overrated" for a reason
It's hailed as a masterpiece because the cinematography was amazing during its time. Just watch the scene in the restaurant. You know the one.
>>
Goodfellas is more entertaining and enjoyable overall
But The Godfather has a more complex plot and characters
bretty good but not for ADD types
>>
I personally thought it was long and boring and didn't like it much.

Though film-wise, it has amazing acting, cinematography, and character development, so I think it does deserve its praise.

I just don't care what guido niggers' lives were like in the 40s, though. So I didn't like it at all.

It's great, but with most truly great movies, don't expect something super amazing that will cure cancer or something. The Godfather's strengths are relatively subtle compared to every other "modern classic" that comes out every month or so. You will need to be patient and maybe even give it a rewatch to fully appreciate it.

casino > goodfellas

>. Just watch the scene in the restaurant. You know the one.
this is retarded advice. The scene doesn't make any sense what so ever without the emotional build up to it through out the movie of a certain character
>>37344876
It's a good movie. I liked it even more when I saw it last year, more than when I saw it 10 years ago. Sometimes a movie with so much cultural baggage is hard to enjoy the first time
>>
It's bad, watch Marvel's Captain America Civil War instead. Godfather has boring dialouge and no CGI action and quips.
>>

The context of the scene adds on, but even then you see the struggle, the sound around him fades. Was very intuitive for its time

Within the past 40 years, cinema and entertainment in general has changed pretty profoundly. In that time people have come to expect entertainment to be more conceptual (he's a killer that's gone back in time to undo all his wrongings) and to have a logical flow to it with a beginning, middle and end.

In that sense, The Godfather will seem kind of pointless and boring. Start off with a scene that isn't particularly important in the grand scheme, cycle through various characters for the next 40 minutes, go off on a single barely relevant tangent and then have a drawn out scene where the character goes to another country.

Part of me kind of supports that it's a little inane and the passage of time has made it age a bit, but mostly it's like that for a reason. It's not a fun and interesting piece of cinema that you can take something away from so much as a humbling look at parts of the human condition.

In that sense, it's one of the best movies ever made. It's just humbling. A bunch of people willed into obligations that made the best with the emotional resources they had and became people that they really had no other choice to that all end up destroying eachother. It's a very human movie.

it has some interesting stuff in it from a filmmaking perspective, but it's boring like most mobster movies are.
>>
why would you invite spoilers before watching it?
Michael becomes the godfather. SORRY SORRY TO SPOIL IT FOR YOU.
Think before you act next time you dumb cunt

It's absolutely a good movie. As a crime nerd this movie hits me right where it counts: Displaying intriguing, flawed characters in a sprawling criminal underworld.

Been a long time since I watched though.

Also one of the girls in that pic looks like a girl I follow on Instagram. She's a whore of the highest caliber.

I watched it for the first time a few months ago. Knew absolutely nothing about it. I liked it but after Marlon Brando went to the hospital/on his death bed the movie went kind of south. Other than that, the cinematography is great and feels like a modern film (in a good way).

Outside of Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and Robert Duvall I thought the rest of acting in the movie was flat.

I watched Goodfellas around the same time and enjoyed it a lot more. Even if it was a bit goofy at times. The scene where Jimmy wants to throw that guy to the lions in Florida was fucking hilarious.

Then again I'm a film pleb and haven't watched many movies at all, I'm getting there though.

The long wedding scene at the beginning is very important. It sort of an establishing of what everyone was fighting for.
I forget the famous Vietnam movie at the moment (god dam it), that had a long wedding scene in the beginning. Test audiences said it was too long, but when they cut it down, later test audiences said they liked the movie less.
>>

It's good.

The Deer Hunter
I think the wedding scene is too long and doesn't add to characterization and setup characters/threads that are relevant later in the movie the way it does in the Godfather or Godfather 2, though I admit this might be because I've seen both Godfathers many times and Deer Hunter only once
>>
It's technically amazing! I thought it was kind of boring, but I don't really care for mob movies. It was really aesthetic though
