As I see it, the only time these ideas interact are when resources are so thin that the group does not have time to fuck around with investments, and needs every contribution it can get from every one of its members, and this is not such a time. It is instead desirable to protect investments, because the alternative belief is totalitarian enforcement of contribution, which in the opinion of many is a risk to investments in advancements of the group.
