I always wondered about this sort of thing.
How is this possible?
Wouldn't something like thought be bare of actual linguistic origin? only when you express those thoughts would the linguistic aspect come into play.
I guess I don't speak two languages, so I don't know what it would be like.

No.

I regularly have to switch between languages and it just depends on the action I'm doing. If I'm reading English articles I reason about them in English. If I'm talking to someone in Dutch or French, I think in Dutch or French. I think it's different for everyone. It also depends on your skill level in said language.
>>37222428
What's wrong with that?
>tfw start thinking in english because I hate my country and language
I wish I could speak perfect english..
>>37222428

Most people use language as the most vivid conscious aspect of their cognitive processes and cannot imagine and often even accept that it is possible to "think" without words.
>>37222466
what language do your parents speak anon?
>>37222428
>is there any way to change this or am i just heritagecucked forever?
Go read literature in your language. Your Country has a long history of literature and arts, right?
>>37222428
>tfw youre speaking in both languages in your head
ive done this for a long time
why dont you speak to people IRL?
>mfw I realize the English will conquer the world again
ANGLO'D
>>37222516
I'm no linguist but I think language is kinda the framework through which people think
So OP thinks in English likely because it's the language he consumes the most media in
You can think of simple stuff like tree or dog or whatever without language but if you wanna think of something like "I'm gonna pet the dog by the tree tomorrow" you need to think about it with language idk
>>37224934
>what language do your parents speak anon?
telugu
It's a South Indian language
not sure why my parents never decided to teach it to me, I guess it doesn't really matter though. It has a pretty cool alphabet but it's super complicated, doesn't work the way Latin languages do
Main language is Dutch, but God do I hate it.
I think in English.
I dream in English.
Do it without realising.
I just want my main language to be something usefull. Like Japanese so I can watch the raws.>>37222780 please confirm that you're not a fake Dutch (Belgian) thanks
>>37222428
we're coming for you
(orignalli
>>37222428
It's better this way. English is better for lewds, swearing and being an asshole.
>>37222428
same thing with me, but at least i have some english heritage
>>37222516
Nope. Thought is tightly related to language, be it written or spoken.
Non-verbal thoughts are basically fight or flight, sensations like hunger and sex, and senses.
>complaining about the only relevant language being your main one.
Oh no I can't speak my dying durka durka language oh heavens no this is so hard.
