i was going to college for math, i dropped out a few months before graduation, was a depressed NEET for a year and a half, tried to finish my degree online with some other college, flunked out again.

but then i applied to the (sort of) school that paul graham called the "next MIT" so it's whatever because if i get in it'll do me more good than any college.

it's a coding school called "42" because le quirky geek culture. it's free and anyone can apply (you have to be between 18 and 30 though), but there is a brutal selection process.

if you've heard of "coding bootcamps", it's kind of like that, only much better and with a ton more hype. they have a campus in paris, france (where i will hopefully be going) and another one in fremont, california.

if you have no prospects and are reasonably intelligent, i encourage you to look into it. it might be logistically difficult if you're not from france or california but it's not impossible.

contrary to what i read on here a few weeks ago, the "software job meme" is in fact not a meme but pretty much an economic imperative for anyone under 30 today. as far as i can tell this school is the best way to get into that at the moment.

Why do so many people go back to college again after dropping out once?

Do you have a fetish for debt that you'll never be able to pay back because you'll never get a job in the field if you're so fucking shit that you can't graduate like a normal person and get decent grades.

Fresh YOUNG graduates will always get priority of your 30 year old ass who has huge gaps in his resume'.

5 years of self study at about 10 hours a day, and now I have a job where I make 60k a year.

23 year old American male here LITERALLY sitting in a library parking lot until my mom goes to work so I can come home because my parents think I have a job when I don't. I owe the hospital two grand that I can't pay and I don't know how to explain to my parents I have no money despite lying about this full time job.

Reporting for duty OP. It's terrible. My plan is to just buy a shotgun next time I get a job. I've made the mistake of having a job and assuming life will get better too many times now. Next time I actually have disposable income I'll make sure that next time life kicks me in the balls I'll be ready to check out.

I don't know honestly, I'm terrified, I dropped out of uni when my anxiety got really bad and student finance won't let me go back. It's been really hard to get a job too, both with my anxiety and previous experience

The closest I got was a catering job in a train station but i had to miss my trial shift to help a suicidal friend and escort job which I was too nervous to go ahead with

I lied to them about the job because I don't want to get shit on for leaving an okay job at a gun factory right after getting a promotion. It was the best job I ever had and I worked there for ten months after they thought I couldn't hold a job down.

I was really depressed one day and felt like crying at work and just decided to walk out and go home. There's a big reason why that was brought on. Anyways I told myself at the time there'd be no consequences for ditching my job because I was so suicidal at the time. Then I told myself no biggie I'll have another job in two weeks. Here I am two months later and I haven't even applied for any jobs in three weeks because I just shut down. I can't tell laziness from depression anymore. It's definitely both though. Seriously can't see myself working again without the prospect of buying a shotgun for myself to look "forward" to.
