I'm fortunate to still have a group of 25+ year olds around on IRC but it's slowly dying down as life catches up to everyone of us. The problem with this age range is exactly that, everyone is working and building up their lives and it's hard to meet others.

Sure there's some advantages to the internet, but over time the negative outweighs the positive.


We appreciated things a lot more back then. That's why computer games came in big boxes with posters and manuals and soundtracks. Music came in CDs or casettes tapes and there was so much thought and effort put into the sleeve covers that held all the lyrics and interesting art. You were able to just sit down and listen to an album from start to finish while reading along. You would know a video game or a movie inside and out and discovered all the secrets and easter eggs on your own. etc.

These days we sit around with all of the music and video games and art and history and porn all avaiable for free at our fingertips in an instant - and we still get bored with it. It's overstimulation and option paralysis.

I feel the same way and I'm 23. I added a handful of local people from zeemaps and they were all underage.

There just comes a time when you realize this actually isn't a mixed age crowd and 4chan is largely 16 or 17 year old teenagers.

Then the first DSL connections started appearing with 128 or 256kb/s if you were lucky, then it was the time of kazaa, emule, playing DaoC or RO. Enjoying summer vacations, going to the arcades. Life was cool before 9/11.

I'm 26. 4chan fills a niche in a way that nothing else can. If you're think or have experienced some fucked up shit, you can let it out here. In the past if you didn't have good friends, who was there to turn to, to let it out?
And you can't say this stuff on reddit either, because people have histories tied to their usernames, possible identifying facts. So you talk about one time you thought about bestiality or something (an example only), and you'll be slaughtered unless you're in some niche subreddit.
The beginning of 2016 I quit this place. First week I kept going on, as habit, but then completely forgot about it. I built up other aspects of my life, and while I felt less empty overall, sometimes I felt the need to get emotions out and I couldn't.
I should give this place up right now desu.
