Do you carry a pocket knife? If you don't, explain why. If you look at it objectively, there's literally no reason why you wouldn't want the extra line of defense against wild niggers and tweakers.

Under the law knives are lethal weapons, same as guns. In any situation where you are legally capable of defending yourself with a knife, you would also be legally capable of defending yourself with a gun. Just carry a gun.

Yes. I picked up the habit when I was working as a mechanic and it stuck, because having a readily available cutting tool on my person is often useful. I got a little bit too hooked, as my drawer here demonstrates. (Third from the left on the bottom row is the one I usually carry.)

I don't view my knives as weapons, they're just utility tools. I'm not likely to run into a situation where I need to deploy deadly force but a 3" knife is adequate to do it with.

Well I didn't consider that. I would advise you think carefully and make a game plan ahead of time for when it's okay to draw your knife. That way if the time comes, you already know what your line in the sand is. From a purely practical self defense standpoint, knives are not effective. "Nobody wins in a knife fight." He will either run away, or draw his own lethal weapon. If he doesn't run away then things will get really ugly.

I usually carry pic related, but when I got locked up in the psych ward the state police took it from me. they said I could have it back if I went to the HQ when I got out, but too much effort. That's the Gerber Fast Draw. It's a very nice knife, I've been carring that specific modle for probably 8 years by now. Semi serrated, assisted ooening, tanto point = perfect. They also make a drop point version, as well as a non-serrated version of the tanto and drop point.
I also carry a Gerber Suspention multitool, that the cops told me to leave at home when they picked me up, so I have that on me now. Its another very nice tool by them, and has a smooth and fully serrated blade on it, so I'm pretty good still. Both are very well priced too.

Something has to be "large" for quality to matter? I'm not really understanding your line of thinking.

The knives in that picture aren't tanks, anyways. I baby my 940-1.

The main practical advantage to the knives in that pic, especially the carbon fiber one, is that the blades are made of steel that holds an edge for a remarkably long time. It chips easily against hard surfaces, but for office work and boxes, which I use it for multiple times every day, it will hold a sharp edge for a very long time.

Everything else is just frills. I enjoy using it every chance I get. It's a beautiful piece of hardware.

>>37111000
Scissors and knives have some overlap in their usage but knives are better at many things than scissors. Scissors work by shearing while knives work by slicing or puncturing.

>>37111011
Big shitty knives.
>>
Yeah, i have one. In my country we arent allowed to carry weapons like that even, so im prepared to throw it away if any cop approaches me for a check up. Not that cops actually do that with white people honestly but sometimes they pretend they dont see color in their job.

It helps a fucking lot having one, muggers are cowards if you have something to face them with. At one point 3 thugs tried to rob me and i managed to fend them off. I know some day im gonna get myself killed but i stopped caring about that.

I also have a machete, i call it the Child Slicer.
>>
>>37111063
Scissors can puncture or slice just as easily by using one of the shears as a blade. Not to any real fine degree but I mostly just use it to get through packaging or cut through string and stuff like that, so scissors would do just fine.
>>
>>37110637
you're goddamn right.

>>
>>37111124
The "blade" of a scissor is dull and toothy, and the angle of the blade is way more obtuse than a knife blade. They are not the same tools. Knives make opening packages or breaking down boxes far easier. Box cutters are even better because they're thinner and have disposable blades.

>The "blade" of a scissor is dull and toothy
Not sure what kind of scissors you're used to dealing with, but this is what the ones I have at home and work look like. They're not razor sharp or anything, but they're certainly not dull or "toothy". I've used scissors like these and others to slice through packing tape by using only one shear like a knife blade. Like I said, maybe in whatever work you do scissors can't work, but for me they do basically anything I would use my knife for. The knife is just smaller and more convenient to carry. My job doesn't depend on being able to quickly open and break down boxes, but it's something I find myself doing often enough to make carrying a knife convenient.
>>

>>
>>37111011
That looks like the kind of tacky shit you'd see in a tourist trap store.
>>
>>37110361
I don't, because there is a retarded law on blade length in my country
Id rather carry telescopic baton, taser or mace
Problem i see with knife is there is not really any non-lethal way to use a knife unless you just swing it around like a moron
With baton you can control how hard you beat them with it, taser is non-lethal to begin with same with mace
If you use knife to fight off someone you risk stabbing them in a bad spot that causes them to bleed out and get some internal permanent injuries
With baton you can just beat the shit out of their legs as long as you avoid the bones, shoulders are another good area, if they are really high on some shit go for the head and KO them, might be lethal if you don't hold back but hey if someone is really high on some bath salts rather him than me
>>
i'm in bongland. i'm a germanic pagan and knives are allowed to be carried for religious reasons. i carry a 10 inch seax everyday. no pictures but just search up seax and you'll find close to what it looks like.
>>
>>37110361
>If you don't, explain why

a lot of places have rules against carrying weapons into them, i don't really go anywhere dangerous anymore and even if i did i'm not confident that having a knife would be useful in any way. for me it would just be a small chunk of metal eating up pocket space and becoming a nuisance whenever i want to go to a hockey game.

if i had any serious self-defense concerns i'd buy a gun.

Look at them under a magnifying glass or loupe some time and compare them to an actual knife, and you'll see the "teeth." Almost all cutting edges actually have them (they're called "microserrations" and I believe the only cutting tools without them are obsidian scalpels and things like that), but they're much coarser on scissors. Scissors are also only sharpened on one side of each blade (a "chisel grind"), while most knives are sharpened on both.

The main thing for me, though, is that knives have much better and safer grips. Anything that actually requires force to cut is somewhere between uncomfortable and outright dangerous when using scissors as a knife.

But I finally gave it to a co-worker and went back to the Suspention because on the SOG it has to be open to get to any of the tools, they're all on the inside. It was p annoying.

Great taste in knives, anon. What steel?

I love the D2 in my 710, just a bit of a bitch to sharpen and i have to keep it oiled, but that edge is magical.

I don't carry it that much anymore because the clip is sorta sprung and it now has a tendency to fly out of my pocket, and I lose it enough as is at home.

I carried it one day at work and it ended up in the fucking dumpster. Luckily my buddy had an extendable magnet and the dumpster was empty apart from the two bags of trash we had taken out.

Usually stick to my Buck 110 or Leatherman Surge.

The Surge is far more practical than a regular knife ever could be. Hell, I can even half-ass sharpen the blade on it with the diamond-coated file on it - it's rough, but it works in a pinch.

You're right about using knives for self-defense. The idea of a knife fight is far more terrifying than a gun fight - at least I can shoot pretty well.
