I'm not a doctor but I've visited a lot of oncologists and talked to a lot of cancer patients since I was around them a lot (Ewing's sarcoma, 17 chemo sessions plus radiotherapy and surgery)

Cancer is bad because it can kill you since it will eventually spread to important parts of your body. They can be painful depending on where they are, but usually they don't cause much pain at first, that's why so many people get diagnosed so late. When it does cause pain it's the worst thing imaginable usually when it spreads to the bone it's the worst pain ever and they need to pump you with morfine and other shit all the time. I've heard of several people who have killed themselves because they could not bear the pain even with painkillers. Cancer can also make you deformed and might require surgeons to amputate parts of your body. Usually if you get bone cancer that means surgeons will have to amputate.
Chemotherapy can cause permanent hairloss, chemobrain, heart damage, liver damage, infertility and a lot of other awful shit,
