The Bible is an interesting read if you familiarize yourself with the history of that time era. It also helps to read some annotated notes or get an edition of bible that's meant for studying rather than preaching.

I will say this though. The new testament letters did a fantastic job of establishing civilization and reducing the impact of religion.

Read Song of Songs for the porn, and Revelation for some riveting apocalyptical drama, and Ecclesiastes for philosophy.

I'm a religionist.

But I understand the meta-narrative of the new testament letters (romans, galatians, etc). It was written by crypto-atheists who despised theocracy. We can credit these people for humanism.

Opposite for me...Old Testament was full of interesting stories, high body count destruction and of course, creation. Everything from war to adultery and many, many murders...some of my favorite characters died by the end. Judgement of the World, mass extinction and the Ark, captained by Noah...


The Nrw Testament was 4 books about the snuffing of Jesus and writings from the disciples and apostles who followed. Suffering, piety, prison times and poetry. A fucking bummer in other words...


Revelations was interesting, if not for the fact that Christians believe it describes the end days then for the highly violent, literal visualizative metaphors of grand imagination left open to interpretation...
8/10, would recommend...
