He is from Brazil and has downs syndrome.
What happened was not a chemical burn or burn, but that when he was younger and he was playing around in the street he was hit by a car going at full speed which made him skid across the pavement almost 30 meters most of which was him sliding on his front which scraped on his face very badly.

So his entire face was torn off by that, the medical care offered was not as good as it might be in a first world country which is why he has a plastic tube in place of a nose and looks so horrific even though this happened years and years ago.
