they accept without hesitation anything that comes out of the white house because they have invested so much of their identity into unironic/ironic praise for trump as a person. if he fails, it's a blow to the ego of everybody whose "meme magic" led to trump getting elected

it coincides with a fundamental issue with trump: he has held every conceivable position on every topic. the wall is just about the only exception. it's really easy for them to play fast and loose with what policies or causes they support since trump's own allegiances seem to shift depending on the last person he spoke with.

a good example is to think about the common /pol/ line:
>hillary will lead the US into unnecessary war in the middle east, trump is anti-interventionist!
this was actually a fairly legitimate point: trump relied on isolationist rhetoric and clinton was genuinely hawkish. she was the main force behind the push back in like '13 or '14 to get involved in syria, which obama rejected.

anyway then trump bombed syria and suddenly it was a great thing--trump has to show the world that american military power is supreme and avenge the deaths of innocent syrians. USA!

/pol/ and other parts of the trump fandom didn't suddenly do a foreign policy 180, they just realized that trump was gonna do this new thing now and they had to figure out some talking points to justify it. the issue was never about american intervention or human rights in syria, it was about whether or not trump would come off as a winner or a loser. in the /pol/ view, trump is necessarily the winner--you just have to figure out how he won and work from there.

comey is another good example:

/pol/ loved him when he dropped the clinton email letter since it made trump look good
/pol/ backed off when he waffled a bit
/pol/ became unhappy as his leadership in the russian involvement investigation developed
/pol/ is happy that he's gone because his presence no longer served to glorify trump
>>
>>36904214
Blame the people who let me vote.
>>
>>36904228
Supporting Trump gets faggots mad. It has nothing to do with his policies, it's about getting results. I'd support nuking Pyongyang tomorrow, just for laughs.
>>
>>36903687
They're fanatical and hypocritical so it's hard to have a discussion with them, the best you can do is hope to very slowly sway them to more rational sides.

They label everyone who disagrees with them as a shill, but think it's great that Alex Jones paid people to advertise his show to other reporters.

I know a couple Trump supporters IRL, and they've thanked me for turning them away from the fanaticism that they see in others, but it took a long time of rational discussion without verbally attacking them.
>>
>>36904100
most of the founding fathers actually recognized this was the logical result of democracy.
part of why we have such a strangely complex system of representation. the senate didn't used to be popularly elected, either--the logic there was basically that some part of the legislative branch shouldn't be completely beholden to common idiots.

hamilton in federalist #1
>History will teach us that [...] of those men who have overturned the liberties of republics, the greatest number have begun their career by paying an obsequious court to the people; commencing demagogues, and ending tyrants.

madison in federalist 37
>It is a misfortune, inseparable from human affairs, that public measures are rarely investigated with that spirit of moderation which is essential to a just estimate of their real tendency to advance or obstruct the public good; and that this spirit is more apt to be diminished than promoted by those occasions which require an unusual exercise of it

the founding fathers pretty much figured all of this shit was gonna happen and tried to build in certain safeguards to prevent it. it's kind of impressive it's lasted this long and only self-destructed once

yeah this is probably the part i missed.
i think a certain segment of /pol/ (and the trump internet fandom at large) is adept at ironically disengaging from everything when it suits them.

a really common form of this is
>i like whatever trump does because whatever trump does hurts or angers people i don't like
or
>i'm just in it for the memes kek lulz xD

which is a strategy that allows people to sidestep having to actually believe in something in favor of landing easy blows against groups or specific people they personally dislike
>>

>which is a strategy that allows people to sidestep having to actually believe in something in favor of landing easy blows against groups or specific people they personally dislike
So what's your point? It's a good strategy, isn't it?
>>
>>36904351
This was literally how /pol/ processed the Syria bombing though.

"Trump did it so it's great."

Nobody cared about sending a message to Assad or standing up against Putin or whatever. It was literally "Trump did something, therefore it was great." The shrewdness (or lack thereof) of the move itself is immaterial.
>>
>>36903687
On many of the other boards here you can't say anything vaguely positive about Trump without getting called a /pol/tard.

it's effective if your idea of personal politics begins and ends with "how can i see the people i don't like in the greatest amount of distress"

Ok thanks, that's what I wanted to hear. Also lol if you think politics are useful for anything else. By all means, continue idealistically voting for your favorite oligarch, though. They DEFINTELY aren't lying to you :^)
>>
>>36904540
yeah, but how many people think trump betrayed them now?

people were similarly butthurt when trump said he wasn't gonna jail clinton or whatever too. there were whole groups of people who seemingly voted for trump solely because they thought he would lead to corruption charges against clinton, and his actual response to the "lock her up" chants was to say "nah not gonna do that, thanks for the votes tho"

i remember watching r/hillaryforprison (lol) freak out about this.

but how many of those people do you still hear whining about trump's hypocrisy now?

i'm not saying that the process of figuring out how to justify a trump decision is smooth. obviously there are gonna be people who feel like trump really fucked up on this specific point or some other point. but that dissent is quickly silenced by the much louder group of people who say "no, trump did nothing wrong"
>>

>climate change is proven

Yes we know there has been an increase in temperature. We also know that its current rise with the rise of CO2 is a fucking correlation. We also know the holocene has had warming and cooling cycles, of which we are currently part of, on the warming end of it. Go ahead and prove that the CO2 increase is actually leading to a linear temperature increase despite its radiative forcing acting logarithmically. Go ahead and rule out the semi-recent release of CFCs depleting the ozone layer, letting in more UV radiation as a source of the temperature increase. Shit, rule out any number of other expected factors that would increase our temperatures as they have today, while disproving the graphs of atmospheric carbon dioxide level as they relate to temperature and how they've almost never even correlated and have wildly fluctuated relative to each other until the past 50 years.

You won't, because you're a science-denying cuck. How many trillions of genders are there, again?

I am sure you don't understand how economy and individuality works. First of all, the economy cannot provide for everybody in its current state. I don't deny that it wouldn't provide for everybody anyway.

Secondly, man is not hard-wired to care about strangers and people he hasn't even met, even if they are dying of poverty.

>There are kids dying to starvation in third world countries, so don't mention ANY problem we have over here

Tell me why kids starving in Africa means that I shouldn't point out how much of a fucking disaster Trump has already been for this country?

>Why should I, as a liberal-progressive-virtue signaling-buzzwords, care about the starving and dying children in third world countries when we have bigots like Trump running the country?! He's LITERALLY HITLER REEEEE! He can't say mean things! It's insensitive! REEEEEEEE!

You know the country has gone to shit when people are more preoccupied stirring up shit about gender pronouns and how half the population wanted to live in a Brave New World/1984 scenario where the government dictates your life as you live blissfully ignorant of your rights as a citizen being taken away and told how you should live and to deal with it from the dirty presidents we've been having from the Bushes to the Clintons to Obama.

Liberals don't have their priorities straight. Quit pandering and virtue signalling. If you are illegal, an alien, get out of the country and come back the legitimate way. If you hate that Trump is our President now, leave the country. Go to Canada where you can get sued by a queer for calling them the wrong pronoun. Go to Europe and be run over by a peaceful truck or beheaded or raped by moderate muslims.

Immigrants need to learn to assimilate to the country they are moving to, not to bring Sharia law or other degenerate standards of living with them. And they need to document it. And be legal. None of this bullshit hippie virtue signalling sanctuary cities that would rather be a slum pandering to rapefugees and terrorists than a prosperous city.

You liberals are fucking cucks.
