Can you spot the difference between the two rappers in this image?

One is a talented, authentic, and unaffected artist who puts his very soul into the music he creates while at the same time self-innovating and generating soundscapes which evoke the very spirit of a generation.

The other is Kendrick Lamar

Rap usually is the least intelligent form of music, especially when the "artists" don't even produce their own beats (which are usually just "sampled" anyway). Not saying there's nothing to it, but to compare it to actual compositions with instruments or electronically produced music is just not accurate.

While I agree that some hip hop is trash, some of it is really good. Like $uicideboy$, MF Doom, J Dilla, Mobb Deep, Chance the Rapper, The Wu Tang Clan, most of the old school rappers, Kendrick Lamar (most of his old shit is amazing), Immortal Technique, Montana of 300, Coolio, Kool G Rap, Necro, Eminem, old lil Wayne, old Kanye West, and even some of the newer rappers. Lil Uzi and Gucci are decent. Not amazing, but decent. Xxxtentacion is alright as well. He's kind of a scumbag though. Some of his songs are retarded too. Future and Hospin are pretty good. A$AP rocky is cool too.

Every genre of music has good music and bad music. Bad music is just more prevalent in hip hop nowadays and it leaves people with a bad taste in their mouths. It's really not that hard to find good hip hop.
>>

Not true imo, as someone who listened to classic rock and alternative for years, I think rock has the highest proportion of shit music right now. I havent heard a rock track in years that makes me feel anything. Most of these artists do literally the same shit.

That's why rap is becoming the new pop. Remember when rap was only for blacks? The vast majority of white girls listen to rap now. Chads and stacys only listen to rap and pop. People used to think "rap = lil wayne" now people think "rap= drake, the weeknd, migos, etc"
>>
>>36874290
He started getting relevant in the early 10s, so I'd consider him newer.

Yeah pretty much this aswell. The only reason I said "bad music is just more prevalent in hip hop nowadays" is because some of the newer tracks from the newer artists are kinda weak. It's not shit, but I prefer listening to older hip hop.
>>
>>36874262

Not really? Maybe for black people ig

White people who listen to hip hop also listen to rock and such. They usually find hiphop later on in life (since white parents are very adamant about sheltering their kids)

>they're blind to the reality
I've seen this only with metalheads and the faggots on this website. To them, rap equates to niggers. End of story.

Metal is just monkey level music. Even a monkey can understand Metal, no, only a monkey can understand Metal.
If you can stomach listening to this crap as an adult, you must really be a primitive creature.

Now let me just sit here and wait for you to write a paragraph response about how I'm retarded while you list off some great Metal bands while I fight back by listening off some great rappers. Every music genre has good and bad artists. You're just too ignorant to see that. If you don't like hip hop, good for you. But insulting the people who listen to it and basing your argument off of one assumption is stupid.
>>36874202
Refer to this. It really isn't that hard to find good hip hop music. If you still don't like it, alright. That is completely fine. But don't go out of your way to bash the entire genre calling ALL of hip hop shit and calling the listeners monkeys. I can say the same thing about rock or metal or whatever you like to listen too. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't like it if someone insulted what you listened to and called you a monkey or whatever insult is in the book, right? But that's just my opinion and there's obviously going to be people out there that disagree with it.

Black anon here and in my experience it tends to be a lot of the younger black kids, especially the hood and wannabe hood ones, and their wanna be friends who exclusively only listen to hip hop and nothing else. I've shown music to some people who only listen to hip hop and rap and they had no concept of the music out side of the drums and bass, they also tended to be black, take that as you will.
Rock music and some other forms of music is seen as for White propel or others.

Well, if music isn't understandable and it ends up being all over the place, the quality would be pretty low.
>do you think a niggers going to be writing down how each syllable perfectly conveyed a certain emotion or some shit
As in writing down each musical syllable on a piece of paper, no. Most hip hop beats are made from a computer so they could create beats using the sounds from there to convey a certain emotion. Not many musicians write down music syllable by syllable nowadays. They use computers which do most of the work in terms of creating the syllables and the desired sounds.
>>36875313
>black people getting angry over shouting words that sometimes rhyme over a drum beat again
Depends on what rapper you listen too. Some rappers do that, but some actually talk about real and heavy crap. J Dilla, MF Doom, and Chance are good examples of talented writers that don't just shout over a rap beat. They actually tell a story. Most underground rapped tell a story too. I could also use your comment to say something like:
>white people getting angry over shouting words that sometimes rhyme over some guitar strings
Or something along the lines of that. I'm white, btw.

Yeezus addressed political themes in a more original and personal way than anything Kendrick ever did.
I really can't understand all the hype around Kendrick, he isn't anything new in hip hop. The themes and perspective of his songs are the same of 90s hip hop, the sound isn't innovative at all.
Kanye borrowed elements from rap music to take it to a whole new level. He was among the first to realize beats can be much more than monotonous jazzy loops in the background.
Kanye for the motherfucking win.

"Rap" is not music.
The fact that so many books still name rap as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" genre ever only tells you how far rap music still is from becoming a serious art. Jazz critics have long recognized that the greatest jazz musicians of all times are Duke Ellington and John Coltrane, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Classical critics rank the highly controversial Beethoven over classical musicians who were highly popular in courts around Europe. Rap critics are still blinded by commercial success. Rappers have sold more than anyone else (not true, by the way), therefore they must have been the greatest. Jazz critics grow up listening to a lot of jazz music of the past, classical critics grow up listening to a lot of classical music of the past. Rap critics are often totally ignorant of the rap music of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the "rappers" did anything worthy of being saved.

Rap and Hip-Hop have their uses. Listen to trap/ modern bass heavy rap when doing repetitive labor or working out. Listen to old school hip hop when you want to hear stories or wordplay. Same goes for any other genre of music. Classical and jazz when doing academic work, metal has the same uses for modern rap, electronic for academic or cardio. Honestly you can't just generalize a whole genre, especially if you've never even tried making music.

All these people mention rock, but is there an actual rock scene making new music that many people actually listen to nowadays? I've heard of The Black Keys and Arctic Monkeys, etc. but I can't stand their mellow, bland music and it all sounds boring to me. I'm not counting metal as rock btw. I also haven't been keeping up with metal either - I just listen to 1990's-2000's hard rock/nu "metal". and Five Finger Death Punch.

Rock has been 'dead' for years, in that there's very little innovation going on and interest has waned because of it. For years now people have been predicting a rock revival and it's just not going to happen. Metal is even worse from what I understand because metalheads have possibly the shittiest culture one could have which actively disincentives bands from gaining too much popularity.

>>36879690
Alright, throw in 'love' which is basically under the same category as 'bitches' and you have 99% of music. The vast majority of music from ANY genre is going to be about the stuff you listed, it's been that way forever, it's in no way exclusive to rap.

Kendrick is overrated. He says "Black people stop killing other black people!" and "Thug culture is the fault of The Illuminati, not black people or the left!". Then all the black people are like "DAMN SON HE WOKE AF!" and think they're intellectuals by repeating what Kendrick Lamar says and some stupid We Wuz/BLM shit. Also Kendrick just brought what underground artists have been doing since the 1990's to the mainstream.

Kanye took risks and changed the direction of hip hop. He also went against the grain and supported Trump while Kendrick jumped on the "Fuck Trump" bandwagon to a certain extent.
>>
>>36879826
>throw in 'love' which is basically under the same category as 'bitches'
There's a world of difference between 'I love you baby lets watch the sunset' and 'ey yo bitch imma cum in your mouth'.
>>
>>36879826
Actually, I'll concede that metal is mostly about depression/death more than that other stuff. My point stands though
>>

What do rock fans listen to in terms of new stuff? Anything bands that normies know of?
>>
>>36879860
>Thug culture is the fault of The Illuminati, not black people or the left

Kendrick has never said this, provide a single fact to back this claim up

Jesus christ

even as a former WN the unnuanced /pol/ opinions on hip hop slay me

listen to Jesus Walks and tell me that shit isn't fucking good
>>
>>36879901
>What do rock fans listen to in terms of new stuff?
I'm not really sure to be honest, there's some okay new stuff on bandcamp but I don't know what is popular and what isn't. As far as normie music goes, the last 'big' rock record that was enjoyed mainstream I can think of was Blackstar but that may have been more because of David Bowie's death. Perhaps a rock fan could be lurking and correct me.
>>
>>36879922
He blamed it on The Illuminati. Look at the "Hi Fi" stuff he said in the past.
>>
>>36879901

Queens of the Stone Age is probably one of the few "rock" bands left, and it in itself is kind of a reaction to older rock music
>>
>>36879860
Since when is holding blacks responsible for killing blacks a leftist narrative, or something negative? In fact it's the opposite, the left only focuses on white on black crimes and excuses blacks killing each other far more often. Kendrick addressed both sides of the coin on TPAB and you should know that.

Also listen to Section 80 for 5 minutes and you'll realize you're absolutely lost. Or Heart P1 where he said "And you aint getting it till you start paying jews".
>>

Correction : HiiiPOWER.

The closest I ever came to listening to hip hop before 2016 was in San Andreas. Last year, however, I got into something else.

Where does death grips fit in this thread?
>>
>>36880155
Are you retarded? Go listen to the song again, he is telling black people to build their own pyramids and hieroglyphs (make their own achievements).

I'm from /pol/ and even I see this as a positive message.
>>
>>36880367
Meme status. So they fit right in.
If you are new to hip hop start with Low End Theory then just expand chronologically through other classics.
>>
Hip-hop:
>politically charged, socially conscious, plays with language, current voice of our generation, deals with difficult subjects, talks about class struggle and racism, allows for expressions of masculinity
White boi indie:
>cucked, only talks about le breakups, feminized, only popular because Pitchfork shills it, shallow vocabulary, jerked over by hipsters, full of BPA and hormones, only women like it

This is the uncomfortable truth. You may like it or not, but the fact is that rap is a superior art form than any meme white boi shit like grunge or indie.
Don't listen to these obvious industry plants, though.

I like that he focuses on black on black crime, but imo it's not really revolutionary. 2Pac did that back in the 1990's. He's gotta go farther.

>Also listen to Section 80 for 5 minutes and you'll realize you're absolutely lost. Or Heart P1 where he said "And you aint getting it till you start paying jews".

Holy shit, really? That's redpilled af. How come he had his career ruined by (((Them)))?

And I stand by the anti-Trump stuff he said. He wasn't a vocal cuck like Macklemore though.

>>36880460
Nah, I never liked hip hop much. I always felt that hip hop was the "edgy" thing for young black kids, the same way hardcore metal became a thing for white ones. I only listen to death grips (I don't even know if I'm doing it ironically or not) because many of their songs are about the internal struggles one faces in their own mind. Hunger Games from NLDW is an all time favourite.
>>
Kanye is one of the GOATs. Not just in hip-hop, but in 21st century music at large.

If you disagree, you need to browse /mu/ & discover what most rap is like.

There has NEVER been a hip-hop tour even close to the Yeezus Tour. Look up vids.

I unironically agree with you OP. Kendrick's conscious rap is very corny to me which makes it very hard for me to enjoy his music, not to mention his hooks that include singing are quite truly ass
