>normies arrive to the internet
>abbreviations are now banned, you must type in full sentences
>emote faces such as "xD" and ":P" are now banned because they were part of nerd internet culture
>all original random internet culture users are bullied out of their happy-go-free attitude
>personal webpages ripped down to make way for the Quora/Pinterest/Facebook superhighway
>Video games reduced to a shitty consumeristic media with no real valuable content

Fuck you normies. Fuck you for taking the one place we had, and shitting all over it.
>>
>>36837301
why cant we co-exist with the normies?

i just want to blend our two species together
>>
i still use "XD, o.o, ;)" i'm probably the only one who unironically does.

i still see people use ":P". you have to use :P if you want to tease people online but let them know you're teasing or being sarcastic.

i only use them on WoW, i don't even talk to people online anymore, unless it's 4chan and on 4chan you can just post an image reply.

Idk, ask the normies.

They're the ones that bully the shit out of us for enjoying "nerd" stuff, then later decide it's cool, steal it and fuck it up till it's worthless.
>>
>>36837383
Are you German by any chance? Somehow not original
>>
>>36837383
I still use them, because it separates me from the newfags typing "rekt" "kek" etc.
>>
>normies arrive to the internet
Normalfags have always used the internet
>>
>>36837462
>normalfags have always used the internet
Really? I distinctly remember being made fun of in my own house while normies drank and threw up around me while I was trying to play MUDs over dialup, and my housemate shouting at me because he wanted to use the phone.
>>
What I hate the most about normies overruning us is the whole indie gaming culture and the need to cash for everything, and don't get me started with the whole kickstarter thing. People just stopped helping and doing things for free, and that's what made internet so fucking special.
>>
>>36837462
No, they arrived in 2008
>>
>>36837301

No anon
You were the normie

I would say r9k is probably at the second to last panel now.

It's a shame there's no alternitive, because I'm sick and tired of normalfags and their """"""problems"""""" on here.
>>
>>36837301

Penguin of Doom XD, XP lol u take him do da | has been grounds for ban on 4chan since 2004.

While technically true (of course normalfags had access to and often used the internet for their own normalfag means), for the most part, the normalfags were largely cordoned off to basically the "kiddy pool" shallow end of the pool which is the internet.

They would check the weather, find out what the final score was for a sports game, check their e-mail and AT MOST communicate with their IRL friends (i.e. existing friends with whom they use the internet to communicate with as a supplement to the telephone or in person - online friends for normalfags were unheard of in this era) via AIM, MSN messenger or ICQ (ICQ being the rarest, but still fairly prevalent).

My kind thrived of BBS, message boards, IRC, XFire, WON, FTP servers; and then later Steam, Gamespy, et al.

MySpace wasn't so much the beginning of the end, as it was a gun going off half-cocked.

The internet wasn't quite popular enough to attract every single person to create an account and maintain it. Sure, a majority of younger people and some more social, tech-savvy 20-somethings made accounts, but it wasn't anything more than a website that some people used to communicate sometimes.

Then 2006 hit. Facebook became accessible to anyone with a .edu address. Since the people enrolled in college in time had largely grown up with internet access, it BLEW THE FUCK UP. As it became more popular, simplified and accessible, it was as if Facebook were the 617 Squadron, dropping accessibility bombs on the German dams holding back the normalfags from being, well, normal on the internet.

The eventual death of MySpace and the explosion in popularity of Facebook led to the normalfag-zation of the internet. Twitter, dumblr, shit-tier meme recyclers, etc...were all born. JewToob was taken over by Joogle. J00gle+ happened.
Concurrently, the launch of the iPhone meant that every fucking jiggabo with thumbs and the ability to pay $60 a month had, largely, full access to the internet wherever the fuck he went. This is where the binary-explosive of "cheap, stupid hardware" combines with "cheap, stupid software," in order to produce the explosion of dumbass, normalfag users on the internet - this is circa late 2009 through mid-2010.

Since then we have seen nothing but technology companies tripping over and trampling over each other and other, uninvolved parties, in order to exploit the dumbass normalfag on the, now stable, cheap expansive and ultimately necessary internet.

To take an aside real quick, us nerds, geeks, dweebs, gamers, etc... While not all of us are capable of it, a good part of the demographic is capable of producing content, whether it be a fucked up folk-song version of Darude Sandstorm, a DBZ mod for Half-life or even basic website building skills: these people are what made the emerging internet (1999-2007/8) so fucking great
On the other hand, normalfags are only capable of, as Regina King refers to as, nigger technology. They're able to operate simple applications which only require the bare minimum of input of the user's thumb across a smudged, low-resolution screen. With this we see the explosion of Twitter, instagram, pintrest, etc...
Such applications make the normalfag feel accomplished and their normalfag friends can trade attention with exchanging shitty content, I hesitate to call it content, it's largely just digital trash: shitty photos of food, children, cars, shit games, and the list is endless.

This is where the money comes in. (((Someone))) figured out if you can introduce advertisement revenue to these shit services that normalfags use, you can make a crapload of shekels. Suddenly, the internet is laden with advertisement. Yes, advertisements have always been present on the internet, but never this pervasive, especially in the fucking forms they come in; no longer are you just clicking out pop-ups, but you're dealing with sponsored content, advertisements posing as news, and I can't even list all this shit.

Without going into it too much, video games have largely gone to shit because normalfags have three qualities:
>they don't want to be challenged, either by difficult gameplay or by psychological element of the story
>they need to be online to play with others or to show off
>they need arbitrary achievements to make their shit games enjoyable

I could go on for hours, but I'm drunk and hungry, so I'm done for now.

Basically:

>tl;dr: Normalfags ruined the internet, games and the way we interact online.

I hate the future.
>>
>>36838153

How do you explain the fact that video games were actually very normie tier in the 70s/ early1980s, and for some reason were geek tier in the late 80s. 90s/early 00s? (after the crash, I think)
Was it Japan?

Are there any possible alternatives to the commercialised, lowest common denominator cultures we see today (internet/video games?)
