recently suffered a concussion and used it to get out of work for 2 weeks.

I actually kind of lost a lot of my French. I couldn't write shit in French these days and I often blank out on certain words and I have to use English ones.

Definitely. If you look at Quebec City or historical parts of Montreal it looks almost exactly like any other European city.

British colonies like Canada and the US and Australia either didn't mind cutting most ties off with their motherland, or they actually went to war with them like Americans did. Quebec still very much retained its French identity and culture, while also making it its own. They don't play ice hockey or eat poutine in Paris.

In that sense, we're not necessarily politically or economically or even culturally "conservative" in that meme sense of the word but as a whole the province is very much still about keeping traditions alive.


As an example, in my parents' generation everything from schools to hospitals were mostly ran by the church. In my childhood I went to a public school and there were crucifixes in the classrooms and we were taught Christianity 3 times a week. (While all the atheists and Jews and brown kids were lumped together in the "ethics" class).

I wouldn't say that was necessarily good or bad, I have my opinions on it, but definitely unique.
