How do I stop seeing hope in someone who is hopeless?

If you can't inspire him to better himself, that's your fault.

I want to, but he's immune. I really do believe in him and think he's so wonderful. I think he hates the light, or for reasons I won't say here, I have to let go and stop seeing him as someone so great.

Let me know. How do I? Stop seeing hope in someone who is deemed hopeless by all of society and pretty much anyone

Either let him go, or allow him to fix himself in time and be willing to put up with it.

He's got to want to change, and you can't make that happen. It will happen only when he's ready, and maybe that means it will never happen. Maybe he's happier this way, or at least genuinely believes he is. He may well be great in some way, but clearly it's sabotaged by whatever it is that causes people to call him hopeless, so it's like a seed that never grows.
